1
1
1
COUNCIL MEETING FEBRUARY 11, 1991
the Civil Defense and expressed appreciation for
of dedication and service.
PRESENTATION TO THE LINO LAKES VFW POST NO. 6583
OF THE DONATION OF EMERGENCY WARNING SIRENS
their many years
IN RECOGNITION
Mayor Bisel present to Lyle Carpenter, current Commander of the
Circle Lex VFW Post No. 6583 a plaque in recognition of the
Donation of Emergency Warning Sirens. Past commanders, Bill
Bohjanen and Charles Cape also came to the podium for this
presentation. Mayor Bisel explained that the entire City is
extremely grateful to this service organization for recognizing
the need for an early warning siren system in the community and
providing the funding ($53,000.00) for four (4) sirens which are
now located in various neighborhoods of Lino Lakes. Mayor Bisel
also noted the many other donations by the Circle Lex VFW Post
#6583 to this City, the citizens of Lino Lakes and the many other
state and national causes. Commander Carpenter thanked Mayor
Bisel and noted other school and athletic organizations supported
by the VFW. He also noted the many hours the members spend to
raise the money for these causes. Former Commander Bohjanen
noted the many hours donated by the Ladies Auxiliary and
explained that this organization is the backbone of the VFW. He
also explained the purpose of the VFW is to serve service men and
their families.
CONSIDERATION AND APPROVAL OF RESOLUTION 09 - 91 IN SUPPORT OF
CENTENNIAL OLYMPIC SPORTS ARENA
Mr. Schumacher explained that this matter was before the Council
on February 11, 1991 and he was asked to provide further
information regarding the wording of Resolution No. 09 - 91. Mr.
Schumacher said he has talked to Commissioner Langfeld who said
that the language must remain as it is because of a previous
commitment made to Coon Rapids by the County. Council Member
Bohjanen moved to adopt Resolution No. 09 - 91 as it is currently
written. Council Member Neal seconded the motion. Council
Member Bohjanen expressed disappointment regarding this
resolution because it appears to have "closed the door" to any
additional funding requests that this City may have for other ice
arenas. Council Member Kuether said she was deeply disturbed and
asked Mr. Schumacher to explain the reason behind this
resolution. Mr. Schumacher explained the reasoning was to limit
the County's commitment to other new ice arenas. Mayor Bisel
explained that the resolution was passed in Coon Rapids with this
language and the County is holding all other cities to this
wording. Council Member Reinert said that no other city has
cooperated more with the County than this City. He asked that
both our County Commissioner and the Chairman of the County Board
be made aware of our disappointment.
PAGE 2
238
