11
unanimously.
Centennial Fire Department Disbursement - Council Member Neal
questioned the disbursement to MaChovec's Food Market for
equipment. Mr. Schumacher said this must be a coding error. He
will research the matter and bring the information back to the
Council. Council Member Neal moved to approve these
disbursements as presented. Council Member Kuether seconded the
motion. Motion carried unanimously.
NEW BUSINESS
Anoka County Joint Law Enforcement Meeting - Council Member Neal
explained that he had attended a meeting where there was
discussion of charging for various services offered by law
enforcement agencies. This includes charging $20.00 when a
officer responds to a false alarm. Another charge is $20.00 to
open a locked car. The officer will write a ticket and bill the
owner for the service. It was noted that many law enforcement
agencies already charge for these services. In the past it was
felt that these services should be paid by the tax dollar. Now
with the current budget crunch, law enforcement agencies are
taking another look at areas to raise additional revenues.
Council Member Neal suggested that the Fire Department also look
at charging for false alarms.
Acting Mayor asked that the Chief of Police research to determine
how many of these types of calls are received by the Police
Department each year and possible revenue from such calls. He
said negligence calls should be charged a fee. Council Member
Bohjanen expressed concern that such charges could get out of
line.
Consideration of Accepting Resignation, Edgar J. Belland and
Authorization to Advertise for Replacement - Mr. Schumacher noted
that Mr. Belland did an excellent job and will be recognized for
his work. He asked if the Council preferred that the open
position be advertised immediately or if the Council preferred to
wait until after the budget process. Council Member Kuether said
it is her opinion that the position should have been filled
immediately with a woman candidate. She also asked if the
position has to be advertised or if it could be filled by someone
on the current list of eligible candidates? Mr. Schumacher
explained that there are about four (4) persons on the
eligibility list and he will check to see if there are any still
interested in the position.
Council Member Bohjanen moved to accept the resignation of Edgar
Belland and send him a letter of thanks. Council Member Neal
seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
PAGE 10
1
1
1
