1
January 13, 1975
to decline membership. Seconded by Mr. Zelinka. Motion carried, unanimously.
Northern States Power had delivered a letter stating their reasons for
the requested increase in rates. The increase is a 16% raise, and will be
on an interim basis beginning in February. Since this request must be
approved by the Public Service Commission, there is no action necessary
from the Council.
Mr. Howard Nelsen, Representative from District 49A was here to report
that Lino and C i terviIle are in the process of being eliminated
from the taxing district of the Metropolitan Transit Commission. This
means that these areas will be eliminated from a study for the provision
of public transportation. He asked if this was the wish of the Council -
and if they had knowledge of this action? He asked because he heeds this
information to guide his vote when this request comes before the House
of Representatives.
Mr. McLean was under the impression that the transportation, needs of this
community was spelled out in the Comprehensive Land Use Plan that was
approved by the Metropolitan Council. Also, Mr. Al Ross, of the
Transit Advisory Commission is a representative of Lino Lakes.
Mr. Neisen said that Mr. Ross represents the entire area, not just Lino Lakes.
Mr. Marier said that Mr. Jaworski had been appointed as representative
from Lino Lakes last January but has received no communication from that
body
Mr. McLean couldn't understand the attitude of the Transit Commission in
view of the planned Open Space program for this area which will require
public transportation of some type sooner or later.
Mr. Neisen said that was, why he was asking the Council for their feelings
on this matter. He will have this information to relay to the House
of Representatives and to the Transit Commission.
He also said that at of now, he does not have a phone at the Capitol but
his home number is 784 -4821 and he is in Room 350 at the State Office
Building. He asked that copies of the minutes be mailed to his home at
5150 Irondale Road, Moundsview, 55112. He plans on attending at least
four Council meetings per year but if there is something of importance
that the Council feels he should know about, he would appreciate being
informed in order that he can attend.
He asked if his impression of the fact that Lino Lakes would want to
remain in the taxing district of the Metro Transit was correct and Mayor
Bohjanen said, Yes. Mr. Neisen said that he would talk to Mr. Helm and
relay the answers back to the Council.
Mr. Marier felt that this Council should pass a resolution stating this
fact. He so moved. Seconded by Mr. McLean. Motion carried unanimously.
The Clerk was instructed to send copies of the Resolution to Mr. Neisen and
Mr. Milton. Also to inform the Metro Transit Commission that Mr. Ronald
Jaworski is the representative from Lino Lakes and all communication for
him should be mailed to the City Hall.
01
