102
January 13, 1975
In this same line of thought, Mayor Bohjanen asked the Clerk to read
a letter he had received from Senator Milton asking the City to inform him
of any special needs of the community. He would like them as soon as
possible in order to introduce them early in the session.
Mr. Marier suggested that each Councilman formulate his ideas to put
forward to the State Senator and Representative and:have them realty
for the next Council Meeting. This would make these men aware of the
needs of this community.
The Mayor had received a letter from Anoka County listing the Auto
dealers who will remove junk cars. This list will be turned over to
the Police Department.
Mayor Bohjanen thanked Mr. Jaworski for the fantastic job done in keeping
the roads open during the past weekend snow storm. He wanted the Police
and the Civil Defense to know their emergency measures were also appreciated.
He asked the Clerk to write each department thanking them for the Council.
Mr. Marier added his appreciation on having his road open so early in
the morning.
Mr.Jaworski reported that the new Ford had been involved in an accident
on Saturday night and the snow plow and the hitch had been destroyed. Mr.
Volk had gotten a cost estimate on a Wausau two way plow - cost of $2,400.00
plus $360.00 for installation. The truck must have the bumper replaced.
Mr. Marier questioned whether this plow would be replacing the one
destroyed or is it an upgrade. He felt that the insurance would pay for the
one destroyed but the difference in cost for upgrading would have to be
paid by the City. He also felt that another bid is necessary before
purchasing a replacement. Mr. Jaworski and Mr. Volk will check further
into this matter.
Mr.Jaworski also had a call from Mr. Everette Hanson whose mailbox had
been knocked off the post by a snowplow.
Mr.Locher said that mailboxes are on public property and the City is not
liable for replacing these boxes. However, such replacement would be
covered by the City Insurance, but the more claims such as this, the
higher the premiums will be. Mr. Locher did add that the City must also
consider public relations.
Mr. Marier felt that if this practice is begun, the City will be in a
position where all mailboxes will have to be replaced or repaired. This
could only create problems for the City. He felt that how the mailbox was
knocked over was important - if by the snow, that is one matter; if by
the truck - then the drivers will have to be more careful.
Mr. Zelinka moved to pass a Resolution stating that if the mailbox is in
the proper position and is struck by a vehicle, the City will repair; if
by the weight of the snow - the City is not responsible.
Mr. Jaworski felt this motion has too many ramifications. Mr. Zelinka
withdrew his motion. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr. Hanson
telling him the City's position on this matter.
Mr. Marier had no report.
