1
1
MAY 27, 1975 1 5 9
There is a vacancy on the Planning and Zoning Board and since Mr. Gourley
had expressed a desire to serve on that Board, Mr. Marier moved to appoint
Mr. Kenneth Gourley to fill the vacancy on the Planning and Zoning Board.
Seconded by Mr. McLean. Motion carried. The Clerk is to write Mr. Gourley
informing him of this change and thanking him for his time with the Park
Board. This leaves two vacancies on the Park Board. Names for filling
these positions will be presented at the next Council Meeting.
Mr. McLean stated his position on the acceptance of the Midway Fence bid
for the installation of the backstops at the Hall Park and Lino Park.
He had a call from one of the Association members who felt that the bid
of that orginazation should have been accepted. Mr. McLean said he was
under the impression that the bid did not include cement for anchoring
the post and therefore, their bid was not the low bid. If this was a mis-
take on his part, he apologized.
Mr. Marier said that the Council and Park Board asked for plans and a schedule
for needed facilities from that orginazation for two years and so far have
received nothing. He felt that some members of that orginazation have been
very critical of two Councilmembers and this attitude is out of line. An
orginization of this sort usually has a plan and does not 1) demand money
be spent for something that has not been budgeted for and 2) demand some-
thing they want done to be completed within days. Mr. Marier felt this
orginization should consider in what areas they could assist the City
and not always demand that the City do thin for them when and how they
want them. This orginization should work h,op themselves and not
demand that everything be done for them.
Mr. Zelinka had no report other than he plans a Personnel Commission
meeting the first or second week in June.
Mr. Jaworski asked Mr. Volk how the road work was progressing. Mr. Volk
said all the streets that were clogged in the wake of the storm are cleared.
Not all the debris is removed as yet, but will be as quickly as possible.
The small patching is almost completed. Mr. Volk asked about designating a
place for the people to haul the downed trees. Mr. Marier said that trees
could be hauled to the County Park on the South end of Centerville Lake
through this Thursday. But this is only for trees.
Mr. Marier reportdd that a utility company had damaged 77th Street. They
are willing to make restitution but need an estimate of the damage. Mr.
Jaworski will take care of this.
The Council requested that the Clerk write a letter of thanks to the
Water Department for their assistance in helping to clear the streets.
Mr. Bill Houle from the audience asked Mr. Jaworski what he planned to do
about 24th Avenue. Mr. Jaworski said he is in the process of computing
cost figures and will have a recommendation at a later date but he assured
Mr. Houle that something will be done about that street.
Mayor Bohjanen asked the Clerk to read a letter he had received
from the Anoka County Health Department with a summary of a publication
from the Metropolitan Council'sResoiirce Receovery Study entitled "Alternative
Strategies and Plans for Affective SolidWas_te,Management and Resource
Recovery in the Twin City Metropolitan Area."' Since the summary report
was quite lengthy, the Clerk will make copies for all Council Members and
the Planning and Zoning Board.
