1
1
October II, 1977
they would like to see a Hockey rink at that location. These plans will be developed
and presented to the Park Board.
Mr. Karth reported that work is progressing on West Shadow Lake Drive. The bid for
black topping was awarded to H & S in the amount of $13,200.00. The City crews will
be hauling the gravel and doing the shoulder work. Mr. Glenn Rehbein's crew are doing
the grading work and has been contracted by the hour. As soon as the signed contract
is received from H & S, this will be forwarded to Mr. David Torkildson.
Gravel work has been done on 77th and it has been graded. The current rains created
quite a lot of ruts, however, the rains confirmed the drainage on that street. Mr.
Karth felt that as soon as the street has dried out, it should be very solid.
Mr. McLean had no report from P & Z. The meeting scheduled for Saturday, October 15,
1977 has been cancelled due to a conflict. The meeting with Mr. Kronholm has been re-
scheduled for Monday, October 17, 1977 at 7:30 P.M.
Mr. Schneider had no Park report but he reported that Mr. Randy Ringaman has resigned
from the Park Board due to a conflict with classes he is taking. It was decided to
delay an appointment to that Board until after the 1st of the year. A letter of 'Thanks'
is to be sent to Mr. Ringaman.
Mr. Schneider presented some figures for the repair of the South hockey rink at Sunrise
Park. The cost of replacing posts, boards, doing some grading, and rearranging the
lighting would be approximately $3,000.00. This work would be done with some volunteer
help from the Centennial Hockey Association. Mr. Schneider said the North rink could
be used for public skating. The doors on the warming house also need to be repaired.
Mr. McLean asked if the North rink would be usable and Mr. Schneider said the lighting
would not be sufficient for hockey games, but would be enough for pleasure skating.
Mr. Schneider moved to repair the South rink as set forth and repair the doors to the
warming house with a total expenditure of $3,500.00. Seconded by Mr. McLean. Motion
carried unanimously.
Mr. Karth said the Lino Area Recreation Association has discussed the rink and the warm-
ing house here at eh Hall Park and the problems they have encountered with volunteers
being responsible for opening the building and be here while it is open. The Association
has discussed the possibility of hiring some person for that purpose. Mr. Karth wond-
ered if the City's insurance would cover this action. It was suggested the Association
provide the funds for the City to hire this person and this would clear the question
of the insurance. The hours would be from 6 to 9 weekdays; 9 to 5 on Saturdays; 12
noon to 5 on Sundays for approximately 28 hours per week, for about 8 weeks. The Ass-
ociation thought that approximately $500.00 would cover the salary. Mr. Karth will dis-
cuss this with the Association and present the idea to the Park Board. The need to
contact the company for a trailer to be used was discussed. Mr. Schneider said this
would also be discussed and that the rental is provided for in the budget.
Mr. Schneider asked Mr. Zelinka if he had contacted Mrs. Billik and Mr. Zelinka said
he had tried twice but had not been able to see her. He will contact her soon.
Mr. Schneider reported there had been no meetings at the MMTC due to the change in per-
sonnel but one has been scheduled for October 26, 1977. Mr. Schneider asked if there
were any objections to exploring the possibility of fire coverage for the West side of
the City from someone other than Lexington. The Council had no objections.
