Council Member
Bohjanen seconded the motion.
VOTING ON THE MOTION:
Bisel
Neal
Ei
Bohjanen
Reinert
Kuether
Absent: none
Motion carried unanimously.
CONSIDERATION OF AWARDING BID FOR PARK MOWER, DON VOLK
The City has advertised for bids on a new mower for mowing City
parks. The mower is capable of mowing a 12 foot cut in one
pass. Low bid is $23,920.00 form MacQueen Equipment, Inc. Mr.
Volk noted that this mower will replace a mower purchased used in
the middle 1970's. The mower is expected to last about 12 to 15
years depending on its use.
Council Member Reinert noted that park mowing could be an area
the City could look at contacting with a private contractor. Mr.
Volk explained that he had researched this about three (3) or
four (4) years ago and found that it is much more economical for
the City to do its own mowing. He also said that he was not
aware of any other city contracting for such services. There
were suggestions regarding contracting with the school district
or possibly contracting with Lino School for the City to mow that
area and collect some revenue.
Mr. Volk noted that Lino Lakes is going to be involved in a
rather extensive recreation program which will require better
maintenance. He said he felt he had better quality control with
a City operated mowing program.
There was a suggestion that the approval of the purchase of the
mower be table until the next Council meeting to allow time for
Mr. Volk to obtain bids from private contractors. Mr. Volk said
he would have to rent a mower because the old mower is
inoperable. After further discussion on this matter Council
Member Reinert moved to approve the bid from MacQueen Equipment
for $23,920.00 with the thought that the Public Works Director
seriously make contact with Lino Elementary Schools with the idea
of getting money back for payment of the mower. Council Member
Neal seconded the motion.
VOTING ON THE MOTION:
Bisel
Bohjanen © Kuether
PAGE 11
