7/24/72
Mr. Tagg wished to have some definite commitment as to whether he can get the 100'
sign if all else fails, otherwise he would have to slow down on his plans. There
was considerable discussion, with Mr. Locher noting that allowing a variance for
a 100' sign would not set a precedent since each case would be judged on its own
merits. Mr. Jaworski moved to grant a variance to Forrest Tagg for a 100' sign for
his motel, depending on the outcome of more negotiations with the Out Post, and if
no other areas are obtainable for other signs down the road. Seconded by Mr. Cardinal.
Carried.
Mr. Marier stated that it had been brought to his attention that we have a County
Commissioner and a Parks Commissioner holding meetings with individual residents,
and asked if anyone was aware of this; no one was. Mr. Marier said it was his
understanding that we sent a letter to the County People that they were to let
us know when they were in our area. Another meeting is scheduled for 3:30 P. M. on
Thursday by the same people, and some people are not included and are upset. He
felt this preempts the open space meeting to be held at Majestic Oaks on Thursday
at 9:30 P. M., to which he is goin.
Mr. Jaworski asked if they were meeting with more than 1 person at a time to discuss
the parks or are they'tryin`: to negotiate easements. Mr. Marier said they were
discussing the parks, but it was bad judgment to hold meetings in a house with-
out the prior knowledge of other people. If they are not in the open about this,
they must be hiding something. Mr. Marier noted that they did not acknowledge
our letter or answer back on it; they are pulling the same tactics as they did
a year ago.
Mr. Jaworski felt he would hate to go offin left field on this and prejudge them
without knowing what the meeting was about; however, he would agree if they are
trying to get people to sell. Mr. Marier noted that he had not attended the
meeting, but got calls. He felt that if our writing a letter means anything they
should have come back with a counter proposal or listened to our input. He suggested
that we send them a letter inviting them to come and discuss their proposal with
us, and telling them to let us know when they are in our area discussing this.
Mr. Bohjanen directed the clerk to write such a letter.
Clerk read a letter received by members from Mr. Burman dated July 21. Mr. Marier
said this letter is no different from the letter we received before; he felt they
should re- establish communications. The others agreed.
Mr. Marier said that he had been at most of the meetings of the Metro Parks Advisory
Committee for the 7- County area, and that they don't listen to local government. Mr.
Jaworski noted that he had attended.the last meeting of the Watershed and obtained
the blue book put out by the League of Women Voters; he felt that if the Metro Open
Space Board got a copy of that they would jump down our throats as it talks about
how things should be done concerning our lakes. He noted that the book condemns
Jandric for building around a lake, mentioning that the lake was low but not that
it had come back, and then they talk about George Watch Take for activities -- it
is even lower than Reshanau. Mr. Marier noted that the book was made by Persons
living downstream from us; their home work was incomplete; it is past history.
Mr. Locher reported that the certificate of Insurance for Chomonix Country Club
met the minimums of our ordinance.
Mr. Locher reported on the letter concerning the collateral held for our bank
deposits over the X20,000 figure. The First State Bank of Minneapolis had sub-
stituted 5x50,000 in certificates at 6.40% due 7/20/78 for the ones due 7/20/72.
Mr. Locher reported that he has the deeds prepared on Maple Street, noting that
Orange street is platted and is 66' wide. Mr. Gotwald had suggested that 60'
was wide enough as Maple is not a main feeder artery. Mr. Locher asked if the
