20
8/14/72
After discussion, special meetings to discuss the 1973 budget were set for
September 19th and 26th.
Mr. Bohjanen reported meeting with the County on their park plan; we had offered
to come up with a counter proposal by Aug. 17, but he didn't feel we would
quite make that deadline as the Boards have not yet met. Mr. Marier noted
that he had been working on this. The P &Z will be meeting soon and have to get a
workshop going to make guidelines to present to the other boards. Mr.
Bohjanen noted that a final meeting will be held for the citizens' input.
There was discussion with it being noted that there will be a joint meeting of
the various boards, including the Environmental Commission, on the open space plan.
Mr. Marier felt the Council should agree on the outcome of the joint effort and
be in accord with them on it. Harold Lehman arrived and presented his sketch
for proposed open space to the Council. He didn't know how many acres were
involved, but reasons for selecting certain sites were listed on the back, and
he suggested that we follow section lines. He was thanked.
Mr. Bohjanen requested that the proposed ordinance on depositing snow on streets
be put on the agenda of the second Council meeting in September.
Mr. Jaworski asked if the hockey rinks were painted yet; Mr. Cardinal said they
had not been painted as something else had come up.
The scheduled hearing for Donald Opp on a trailer permit was called to order at
9:54 P.M. Mr. Opp was not present. Mr. Cardinal moved, at 9:55 P.M.,
that the hearing be closed until the next Council meeting. Seconded by Mr. Marier.
Carried.
Mr. Zelinka moved to table the matter of membership in the Metropolitan League
of Municipalities until the next Council meeting for further consideration.
Seconded by Mr. Jaworski. Carried.
An application for a sewer license from Lawrence Kuehn dba Kuehn Excavating was
discussed. Mr. Locher noted that the insurance and bond were in order except
for a missing notary seal on the bond. Mr. Jaworski moved to approve the sewer
license for Kuehn Excavating, and that the Clerk send the bond back for notarization.
Seconded by Mr. Marier. Carried.
Clerk asked Mr. Locher if the Village must keep the office open fromthe regular
closing time until 9 P.M. for voter registration or can we open the office later
in the evening. Mr. Locher stated that there was a flaw in the wording of the
statute, but he would interpret it to mean that the office must remain open from
the regular closing time until 9 P.M. Mr. Jaworski moved to have the Hall open
on Aug. 18, 21 & 22 from the usual closing hour until 9 P.M. for voters
registration. Seconded by Mr. Zelinka. Carried. Clerk noted that she did
not yet have someone to fill in for all 3 evenings. Mr. Jaworski said he would
try to get someone else. Council agreed to hiring additional help if necessary.
Mr. Locher had gotten a call from a lady from the League regarding their providing
free manpower to register persons in places other than the Village Hall. He
noted that such persons would have to be deputized and should have supervision.
This would be done on a non - partisan basis to encourage people to register to
vote. Council felt it was unnecessary to have another place for registration.
Clerk noted there would be people coming in on Aug. 23rd to make up lists of
the registrants; she felt they could work in the Conference Room so as not to
interfere with the office.
1
1
