1
1
1
53
10 =24 =72
plans for the property at the junction of County Rd. 14 and 135E. They will
be constructing a truck stop and a resturant in the Spring. The Council
requested the Clerk to get this in writing.
10. The subject of the lots up for tax forfeit in the Lexington Park area was
discussed. No one had time to look at them and therefore the matter was
tabled until the next meeting. Mr. Marier so moved. Mr. Cardinal seconded.
Motion carried.
Mr. Cardinal reported that there was no Park Board meeting, one member had been present
and there was some discussion on an inexpensive shelter for the Baldwin Lake area but
nothing definite. He also thought that there was a misunderstanding as to the desires
of the Rice Creek Watershed. They did not want to see the plats before the local P &Z
Boards and the Councils. The Watershed District should be the last one to receive the
plats and they are only interested in the one that would affect the water, not all plats.
There is still quite a lot of concern about the plane in Marsham Lake. The Clerk said
she would find out who owns it and what their plans on removing it are.
Mr. Bohjanen read a note from Mr. Backlin that I n order to remove the stumps on Peltier
Lake Drive, he will need a bull dozer and heavy loading equipment as our equipment is
inadequate to handle these bigger stumps.
Mr. Marier said there had been no progress for three weeks and he would like to see this
get done as the school bus has a problem getting through this street in the winter.
Mr. Zelinka asked if the stumps could be burned. There was discussion on the solution.
Mr. Zelinka moved to have Mr. Backlin get two bids in writing on the cost of removing
the stumps and widening the road. He is then to take the lowest bid and proceed. It
was also suggested that a performance bond be posted. Mr. Marier Seconded. Motion
carried.
Mr. Jerry Young appeared before the Council on behalf of the Anoka County Library to
expalin about the problems of the brance library located on Lexington Avenue. Mr.
Young said that support for the branch had come from the Centennial Shool district in
the past, but because of the cut -back in spending on the part of the District, they
could no longer support the project. They are asking that each Village assume a portion
of the cost to maintain the Branch Library in that location until the Anoka County
Library Board can build a permanent structure to house the Branch Library. Mr. Jack
Oman and Mr. Ed Bloomstrand were also present.
Mr. Bohjanen asked if there was room in the Lovell School to house the Library.
Mr. Oman said, Yes, and that the space had been offered to them, but they have found
that by housing a library in a school it loses its effectivness. People some how do
not use the Library then.
Mr. Zelinka asked how long this arrangement would be necessary.
Mr. Young said there are now plans in the making for a permanent home for the Branch
Library and probably would need help for the next couple of years.
Mr. Zelinka said the Council could certainly consider this.
MR. Oman said the Board would appreciate an indication of support which would not be
considered as a firm commitment.
The Council indicated that they would support their plan and that their feelings are
in keeping with what the Library is trying to do. They would request that the Library
Board present the Council with a firm figure as to their portion of the cost.
