The cost,for total clothing outfits for a. new man comes to, <br />$198.00 less $15,00 for badges, etc. Mr. L'Allier stated <br />that all the neighboring departments pay for all the clothing, <br />whereas we give the men $60 per year clothing allowance. There <br />was discussion on the uniforms, also on a proposed color code <br />to blue uniforms only. Mr. Locher will check on this. Mr. <br />L'Allier recommended furnishing complete uniforms for the Police <br />Department., Mr. Cardinal noted that we have no idea how long <br />the new man will stay; Mr. L'Allier stated that we would only <br />have to buy him a summer outfit if we hired him,soon. Mr. <br />L'Allier stated that he would like to go with one full -time <br />policeman if feasible. He had also talked with the neighboring <br />Police Department who would like to go with us; this would,give <br />us an extra car, etc. <br />3. Mr. L'Allier recommended that the Deputy Clerk be authorized to <br />r,J: type the completed copies of reports for the Police Department <br />due to big increase in paper work which doubles year to year. <br />These would be reports to other agencies, and not day to day <br />reports. The cost was estimated at $1O -$40 per month. <br />1�. The radar set is on the blink. Estimates for repair run to $525. <br />We have two bids on new radar sets: a Mark VI Stephenson <br />Speedalyzer for $1700, and a Decatur Electronics Radar Deluxe <br />Model for $1395 with an additional trade -in of $100 for the <br />old set. W. L'Allier stated that Federal funds are available <br />for radar sets. He recommended that the Council authorize the <br />purchase of a new radar set, the low bid, and trade -in the old <br />set, then apply for reimbursement of 50% from Federal funds; <br />the dealer will help complete the application. <br />5. He is checking the price of a new resuscitator and will recom- <br />mend getting one. He recommended getting plastic splints at <br />$45 and an extra oxygen tank at $29.95. <br />6. The County used walkie- talkie sets, which our department has <br />used on several occasions, to keep in contact with units on <br />foot; these could be used in conjunction with the CD truck; <br />they have two frequencies. We have received bids as follows: <br />an RCA at $648; an Aerotron from General Communications, Inc. <br />at $640; and an Aerotron "Minivox III" from Hoffman Electric <br />Co., Inc. with Leatherette case, battery charger, cord micro!- <br />phone ,and clip -on roof antenna and cable for $562.50. Mr. <br />L'Allier felt that the Minivox III would be a good investment <br />and recommended authorizing purchase of same. <br />Mr. L'Allier noted that at the end, of May the police had spent $5035 out of <br />their budgeted $23,750, leaving $18,715. He read the, distribution of the 1970 <br />police funds and other statistics. The per capita cost of policing in 1970 was <br />$3.57 per person. Mr. L'Allier moved to authorize all the above recommenda- <br />tions on the Police Department, Seconded by Mr. Jaworski. Carried unanimously. <br />Mr. L'Allier noted that the Metro Park Reserve Board bill had passed the Senate <br />but not the House, and gave his feelings on the subject, noting that hopefully <br />the bill would not come up in the special session. <br />
