1/27/72
e question from the floor. Anthony Nathe, co -owner of the 49 Club, wished to
have the Council send a letter to the Village of Shoreview asking that he be
able to have sewer service from Shoreview. He stated that they were having
many sewage problems and had to pump every week. He thought that Freeman's
Bottle Shop, Hank's Superette and the neighboring house would hook up also if
service were provided.
Mr. Bohjanen asked about establishing the fee correctly,so that we wouldn't
lose any of our portion. Mr. Locher stated that this would be done by contract
between the two villages; he noted that we have no idea when either their or
our sewer lines will be coming through and suggested that the Village Engineer
take the matter for study. This would definitely need the approval of the
Metro Council.
163
MJr. Nathe stated that he had been in contact with the Village Engineering firm
for Shoreview, and they had told him to make this request to the Council. They
expect to have their sewers in this spring or early summer. Mr. Marier comment-
ed that the consulting engineers could only advise on this. Mr. Nathe noted
that the Venetian Inn had hooked up to sewer across village lines in 1964. It
was noted that this was before the existence of the Metro Sewer Board. Mx.
Jaworski felt that if this request for sewer was made and approved that the
Metro Sewer Board would require that the whole row of homes along County Road
J be hooked up. There was more discussion.
Mr. Bohjanen stated that we must make sure that we mention that the hookup
charges and anything we have coming will give us the money to pay for the
sewers and Lino would be taken care of. This would all have to be in the same
contract. He felt the only thing to do is to refer this to the Engineer and
have him carry it from there and give a report on what he can find and check
the legais of it with the Metro Sewer Board. Mr. Marier noted that this would
not be as easy as it sounds because of the controls the Metro Sewer Board has.
Mr. Nathe noted that he has permission from his neighbor to extend his drain
field on her property if necessary; he was willing to pay for the sewer rather
than continue with his problems. Mr. Bohjanen noted that he had spoken to the
Engineer on this, and that George had taken a look at the maps he had and found
that 600 feet was the closest point to the Shoreview line which is quite a
distance. Mr. Nathe stated that the cost of pumping so often was costly too,
and that everytime it rains the cesspool is full. The Clerk was instructed to
call the Engineer on this in the morning.
The Clerk reported receipt of the following: the remaining homestead tax cre-
dit for 1971 in the amount of $3,592.74; $107.50 in municipal court fines for
December; a letter from the Assistant County Attorney stating that the deed for
the portion of Baldwin Lake Road, which had been delivered to Mr. Locher on
11/23/71, divested Anoka County of any interest they might have in this road;
the fourth quarter fire report from Centerville; a letter from the Metro Sewer
Board advising of White Bear Township's comprehensive sewer plan. The Clerk
was instructed to have the Engineer write to the Sewer Board of any interest
or conflicts which this might make for Lino.
The Clerk reported receiving a copy of a letter from Robert S. Herbst to the
Police concerning sale of the metal building on the old Hansen gravel pit
property; the building is to be removed. A letter from Phil Lewis of WCCO Radio
advised that the site for the radio tower has not been completely abandoned and
they are awaiting further advice from Federal Agencies and may still use the
site for a tower. Mr. Marier commented that with the cancellation from the FCC
on the tower it might be well to watch what the airport site is doing. There
was discussion on recent developments on the airport question. A thank -you
letter was received from the Anoka County Union & Shopper on having the plain
