211 <br />3/27/72 <br />Mr. Cardinal siad that the Skyline Softball League would like to use the dia- <br />monds at Sunrise Park on Mondays and Wednesdays. <br />Mr. Cardinal noted that there was no charge for using these parks, but he <br />thought there should be, especially for outsiders. He suggested :100 per year <br />since other parks in the area charge $125 plus a $50 deposit for cleaning up. <br />Mr. Marier asked when the kids got to use the diamonds. Mr. Jaworski stated <br />that there are other diamonds. Mr. Cardinal noted that 2 more softball diamonds <br />are to go in this year. Mr. Jaworski noted that the leagues don't play until <br />after 6 p.m., so the kids can use the diamonds all day. Mrs. Swanson asked <br />what month? Mr. Cardinal said the skyline League would start the end of April. <br />Mr. Jaworski noted that most of the kids are involved in little league baseball <br />and they had had no conflicts before. Mr. Jaworski naiad that the other dia- <br />monds at the Hall and at Sunrise should be ready this spring. Mrs. Swanson <br />asked why the diamonds are at Sunrise only. Mr. Jaworski stated that we have <br />20 acres there so we use it. <br />Mr. Bohjanen asked Mr. Cardinal to pursue getting one diamond at the Hall. Mrs. <br />Swanson noted that there are a lot of youngsters in this area who like to play <br />ball. Mr. Popham stated that there are no facilities in this area for ball. <br />Mr. Cardinal said that was why the Park Board mentioned putting one at the <br />Hall. Mr. Popham said they needed one close to Hwy 8. Mr. Jaworski suggested <br />contacting the Forest Lake School District to build a diamond at the Lino <br />School, and suggested that we ask them to put in other recreational equipment <br />for smaller kids. Mrs. Swanson stated that they don't have the funds to do <br />that, the Mother's Club put in what is there. <br />Mr. Marier said too many diamonds are being used by adults, not by kids. We <br />should start with the kids first. Mr. Bohjanen asked Mr. Cardinal to concen- <br />trate on the Hall, the school and Lino Park. <br />Mr. Cardinal reported that the Rice Creek Watershed Board had hired an attorney <br />named Mr. Murray. They had received $5000 from both Washington and R'msey <br />Counties, and were expecting another x5000 from Anoka County. Mr. Marier asked <br />about the mill rate. Mr. Cardinal stated that it would be 1 mill or less. <br />Mrs. Gould asked if -:ve were getting aid to help maintain the parks. Mr. <br />Cardinal said we are going to contact theForest Lake School Board; that is why <br />we should go on fees. Mr. Marier felt we shoulc wait on that until we see <br />on the school. <br />Mr. Popham asked if the Council passed on approval for the groups to use the <br />diamonds. Mr. Bohjanen suggested this be discussed at the next Park Board <br />meeting. Mrs. Swanson said there has not been one Park Board meeting. Mr. <br />Cardinal said there was one in both January and February. He had reported that <br />the January meeting was an introductory meeting, and that at the second meeting <br />they had discussed ball diamonds and tennis courts and checking on equipment to <br />clean the rinks. At the third meeting one member showed up at 8:20 p.m., so <br />he locked the door and left. <br />Mrs. Gould asked who did the appointing of those members who are so prompt to <br />show up. Mr. Bohjanen stated that this was a problem when appointing members - <br />you don't know if they will show up or not. Mr. Jaworski commented that it was <br />easy to forget when you only have one meeting a month. Mrs. Swanson said how <br />about me, I have 6 or 7 meetings a month. <br />Mr. Bohjanen asked Mr. Cardinal to call them next time. Mrs. Swanson asked <br />Mr. Cardinal if he had finished his report on the Watershed, and wondered if <br />
