1
1
W. Jaworski reported that he and W. Bohjanen had attended the meeting at Spring
Lake Park on tax disparities in regard to trailer homes. The meeting had been
well attended with representatives from all of the villages in Anoka County as
well as some from Ramsey County. A representative of the Minn. Assn. of Mobile
Homes had spoken, stating that the Assn. realizes that mobile homes do not con-
tribute enough taxes but that most trailer owners are more than willing to pay
their fair share, and that new legislation is needed. A study board is being set
up to determine what sort of legislation is necessary. This board wants to know
the feelings of the communities towards the taxes received from trailer homes,
whether the amount is adequate or not.
Mr. L'Allier wished to go on record, advising this committee, based on statements .
recently received from Centennial School District#12 in conjunction with recommend-
ations by the League of Minnesota Municipalities, that we are in favor of and willing
to help promote legislation which would help solve the tax disparities problem with
mobile homes and that we would like to be in close contact with this group. W.
Jaworski moved to send a letter to this study group stating the above and to include
a copy of the draft on proposed legislation from the League. Carbon copies will be
sent to our legislators and the superintendents of the three school districts in
Lino Lakes. Motion seconded by Mr. Bohjanen. Carried unanimously. It was mentioned
that this meeting had been called by our legislators.
Mr. Rosengren stated that the work on Bald Eagle Blvd. which could not be finished
last fall because of rain had been redone; they are ready to start work on the
other roads. W. Rosengren asked about having the weeds cut. After discussion
Mr. Bohjanen moved to publish an ad for the weed cutting with bids to be in by the
first meeting in August and the work to be done in August. Seconded by W. Rosengren.
Carried unanimously.
W. Rosengren mentioned that he hadn't been able to get in contact with the salesman
on the new truck; he thought a trade using one of our vehicles might be worked out.
W. Rosengren stated that North Central had already installed the line on Baldwin
Lake Road --in fact, residents had complained about the sand left in place of gravel.
A letter will be written to North Central reminding them of our Ordinance No. 49
and requesting drawings of the lines so that the summer roadwork can commence.
Mr. Rosengren asked how the vote had gone in Lino on the hospital bond election; the
Clerk replied that of 88 ballots cast, 68 were against and 20 were for the bond.
W. Rosengren asked W. Locher whether liquor could have been sold during the hours
of the hospital election; although it is now past, we should have clarification
for the future. W. Locher will check.
W. Rosengren noted that the road department was ready to begin work on the summer
program. •Mr. Gotwald read from the plan which had been accepted earlier; the
estimated cost for the 3.6 miles of work was $12,115. W. Rosengren noted that,
with the exclusion of the bills presented this evening, he had approximately
$22,900 in the fund to work with. They will start with the dust control on Baldwin
Lake Road and Linda and Lauren first.
There was discussion on some short pieces of roads not accepted by the Village.
After W. Gotwald comes up with the length of road and cost of work, the Village
will set a date after which any road must be brought up to specifications before
it is accepted.
