160
involve a steel panel on the bottom. W. Hagen showed a sample of their insulation
and roofing panel, stating that the density of the 8" insulation was 2 -1 /4 #.
The Mattson net.bid would be $83,368 after deductions.
The Krueger representatives were asked about the air conditioning change, the
extra cement, etc. Ken Skoglund stated that the overhead air conditioning and
cement work would make for no additional costs but would be included in the base.
bid. The Krueger bid with the one deduction for 26 gauge metal would net at
$82,986. The differences in the two bids was thus $382.
Mr. Gotwald was asked for his opinion but had none at this time. W. Hagen asked
if the present Krueger bid had been submitted after the bid letting and was told
"yes ", but that there was no change in the base bid amount. W. L'Allier asked
W. Hagen when construction would start and was told immediately, as soon as the
contract is signed, with working time to be 135 running days. Ken Skoglund stated
that Krueger would start immediately with the estimated time of 180 days probably
shaved to 135 -145 days. W. Gotwald noted that these times would begin after the
contract is signed which would be done after the written blueprints are accepted.
W. Locher asked W. Hagen about the amount for painting which was not included
in the bid but added as an alternate. W. Gotwald noted that the painting needs
to be done after the interior decoration is finished. W. Hagen stated that their
plans for the electrical, heating, and plumbing work are already laid out.
W. Locher stated that the difference was now $382 but that it would be greater if
we went to 24 gauge metal. Mr. Gotwald noted that only one color could be obtained
from Krueger in 24 gauge. However, W. Skoglund noted that all colors could be
obtained but there would be a wait for the factory to produce it. There was
further discussion on the insulation, with Mr. Gotwald noting that the Building
Committee had originally asked for 8" insulation. W. Locher noted that the, small
bid difference might be a wise investment if the 8" insulation is better. W.
Gotwald asked about the guarantee. Ken stated that Baleo would meet any guaranty.
W. Hagen noted that the heating costs had been worked out with the utility company
and that the difference in bid cost could be picked up in heating savings in less
than 2 years.
Ken..asked what the difference in bids was if both systems met the specs, namely,
that the Mattson bid on heating went by the specs. W. Gotwald stated that an
addition of $3260 was included in the Mattson bid for heating ducts in the
cement, for a net bid amount of $86,628. W. L'Allier noted that the Krueger bid
thus meets the building specs, but the Mattson bid did not without an add -on.
W. Hagen noted that he had contacted George prior to the bid opening and asked
if their heating plan was satisfactory and was told "yes ". W. Gotwald felt they
should have put in an alternate for their plan rather than for our specified plan.
W. L'Allier asked W. Skoglund if they would put in 8" insulation and was told
"no ". W. Gotwald asked W. Locher if it made any difference in the, additions
and deductions when Krueger had originally given us a verbal statement that no
sidewalks and-16" footings were included in the bid and an add -on would be
necessary for this work, only to have him include these in the base bid later.
W. Locher stated "no" since he came in now with them in writing to include it
in the base bid.
W. L'Allier went over the figures, noting that the difference in the bids was
now $3642 if we held Mattson to the specs. Mr. Jaworski talked about the over-
head heating system, stating that Krueger had no alternate for this system in his
bid.
