240 <br />11/23/70 <br />Mr. L'Allier noted that we had gotten bids on the specs we asked to have drawn up; that <br />the problem boiled down to three things; 1. Is it critical that we need the truck <br />immediately, 2. Should we spend this much, 3. Can we get by with the equipment we hay <br />The representative from Merit spoke again on the merits of the larger truck, mention- <br />ing the extra features we would get for the additional $800, and noting that our <br />specs were the minimum forsnowplowing. There was more discussion with h. Rosengren <br />noting that our big truck cannot take the strain of snowplowing and the small truck= <br />needs a new engine. Mr. Backlin noted that if we had a snowstorm now we would have to go <br />24 hours per day to barely keep the roads open. He suggested buying the larger truck as <br />did Mr. Jaworski. Mr. L'Allier commented that he hoped people wouldn't think that this <br />was a self- created emergency. <br />Mr. Jaworski moved to buy the 427' truck from Merit Chevrolet due to an existing emergency. <br />Seconded by Mr. Rosengren. Vote: Mr. Jaworski, Mr. Cardinal, Mr. Rosengren and Mr. <br />Bohjanen --Aye; Mr. L'Allier -- no. Motion carried. <br />There was some discussion on the financing of the truck. Merit Chev would handle on <br />$2000 down with payments of $235.19 per month for 24 months. <br />The discussion turned to the purchase of a box, V -plow and wing for the truck. Mr. <br />Rosengren stated that a bid on all the additional items had been received from Chas. <br />Olson & Sons, but that the other bid was on the box only. <br />Mr. Olmschenk from Merit Chev. stated that if we were to purchase all the additional <br />equipment from Chas. Olson & Sons, that this equipment and the truck could be financed <br />tokether. Mr. Bo janen moved to set a special meeting date on November 30th for dis- <br />cussion on the bids for additional equipment for the new truck. Seconded by Mr. <br />Jaworski. Carried unanimously. <br />Since there were two bids on the dump body, the Council discussed this matter. After <br />a lengthy comparison of the two bids, Mr. Rosengren moved to award the bid to Chas. <br />Olson & Sons in the amount of $1827 for the dump box and controls since they were the low <br />bidder. Seconded by Mr. Bohjanen. Carried unanimously. The contract will be sent later. <br />Mr. Jaworski moved to authorize the mayor to sign the retail order for the truck in the <br />amount of $6964. Seconded by Mr. Rosengren.- <br />osengren Motion carried with Mr. L'Allier abstaining. <br />The Clerk was asked to check with M. Vagasky at Centennial State Bank for their financ- <br />ing rates. <br />Mr. Rosengren reported that they had held a building committee meeting and had decided <br />to g� ahead with the purchase of materials to finish the walls in the rest rooms since <br />it had to be done before the fixtures could be installed. Ken Miller was checking prices <br />on ceramic floors. <br />Mr. Rosengren mentioned that he had gotten a price on making a raised platform (in the <br />Council chambers) for the Council table and chairs. The cost for a 26' by 10' platform <br />14" high was $409 plus the cost of a couple minor eliminations by Mattson Building & <br />Supply. This would be Change Order No. 1, if accepted. The eliminations were for 3 paper <br />towel holders in the restrooms and for finishing the taping of the sheetrock. <br />Mr. Rosengren reported that Columbus Twp would meet the second Wednesday in December to <br />discuss charges for grading in 1971; also, he had gotten prices from Jack Vadnais in <br />White Bear on a gas tank and pump; he will get additional prices. Mr. Rosengren felt <br />we should set up another Committee meeting since we should discuss such things as <br />carpeting. <br />Mr. Rosengren moved to authorize the use of towel cabinets in the rat rooms and shop <br />cloths from American Linen. Seconded by Mr. Cardinal. Carried unanimously. <br />
