29(i
3/22/71
Mr. James Ray, Village insurance agent, stepped forward to answer questions on our
coverage. He stated that we have $85,000 coverage on this building and contracts
for glass coverage and other additions. He stated that there was a different rate
on equipment which was kept elsewhere'than on Village property. The inventory has
been started; the policy will be up -dated when it is finished.
Mr. Locher asked if a loss of use provision for time if we should have to rent
another building in case of loss of this one could be provided. Mr. Ray stated that
such rates run like fire rates- -about 75f/ per $100. This can be set on a flat
limit or on indefinite valuation which would probably be lower. Mr. Bohjanen felt
that this should be for a 6 months period, Mr: Ray for 6 -9 months.
There was some discussion on the Assessor's and Treasurer's bonds; Mr. Ray will
check with the County Auditor to see if these can be made continuous. Mr. L'Allier
inquired whether the Assessor's and Clerk's cars could be covered under Village'
insurance. Mr. Ray replied that Village people are covered completely when on
Village business, but not their own vehicles. The Village insurance is to protect
the Village, not the employee. The same goes for Councilmen and others. This was
discussed futher.
There was discussion 'on valuable papers coverage. Mr. Ray inquired whether we had
a fire file and was told no. Mr. Rosengren asked about the difference in our value
and the actual value of items on the inventory. Mr. Ray stated that vehicles are
automatically based on blue book values.
Mr. Cape asked about needing outside insurance for beer licenses for the CD,
stating that other villages are covered and the CD doesn't need an individual policy.
Mr. Ray stated that we can't put, liqubr coverage under our blanket policy; he
would like to see the policies of thses other villages. Mr. Locher noted that the
Village does have private liquor licenses and cannot issue beer licenses to its
own units.
Mr.'Ray stated that he will try to put the Assessor's and Treasurer's bonds under
the blanket policy if possible.
Mr. Rosengren reported that we had done some road work for Columbus Twonship
amounting to 5 hours' of man and truck plus some gravel. The Clerk was asked to
check of a letter authorizing paying Columbus $15 per hour had been written. Mr.
Cardinal moved to authorize Mr. Rosengren to comptite the costs of the emergency work
for Columbus and to have the Clerk bill them for same. Seconded by Mr. Jaworski.
Carried unanimously.
Paul Breher, insurance man, came forward to state that he had gone over our present
insurance and had prepared bids on all coverage. He now writes insurance for
Falcon Heights, West St. Paul and other communities. He noted that Lino Lakes is
about the only community which does not put their insurance out on bids. Mr. Breher
stated that his policy for workmen's compensation' pays a 15% divident regardless of
claims. There was discussion on the fact that firemen are listed on our workmen's
compensation policy. The Clerk was told to mention this to the insurance men when
the present policy comes up for audit soon.
Mr. Breher will be sent a copy of the new inventory. He was asked tp provide prices
for increasing the value of the building to $100,000 as was Mr. Ray asked to change
the coverage to that amount. Mr. L'Allier asked Mr. Breher whether his companies
would cover Village employees autos while on Village business. Mr. Breher stated
that the Village was protected only, not the employees. He noted that the workmen's
compensation prices were listed separate on his bid; the prices are standard,
but the dividends vary.
Mr. Rosengren felt that the value of the barn at Sunrise Park should be reduced
