The Clerk will write.
Mr. Cecil LaMotte asked whether it was necessary to publish notices for the hearing
for the approval of his plat and was told yea. If everything is ready he will
probably go to the P &Z on the 16th and the Council on the 28th. Mr. LaMotte stated
that he had changed the drainage to a different lot in the plat.
Mr. Jake Lundheim, County Engineer, was present to mention to the Council that the
County would need future grade approval on CSA 21, north from Main Street. There
was some discussion on the work which will be done on this and other roads this year.
Mr. Cardinal thanked Mr. Lundheim for the work done on Birch Street.
Mr. Cardinal stated that he had received phone calls from residents on Highway 8
asking about the rezoning of 300 feet on either side of the Highway for commercial
use as well as complaints on Mr. Bruder's operation. Mr. Locher stated that the
rezoning of these strips was done in Ord. No. 6, passed on July 18, 1955., and that
this had been published. Mr. Locher also stated that Mr. Bruder, under commercial
district regulations, could park the garbage trucks on his property, but that no
rubbish was to be deposited on the property itself; it si permissable for Mr. Bruder
to haul and store the barrels which are to be used for burning rubbish and are sold
to customers, as this is incidental to a gargage operation. Mrs. Bruder, in the
audience, stated that both trucks had been fixed and that the garbage which they
contained had been hauled out. She also stated that some persons on their route had
gotten so far behind on their garbage bill that they could not pay and thus offered
pieces of scrap to square their debts. She didn't feel that it was fair that they
should have to suffer such harassment just to make a living. Mr. L'Allier mentioned
that the Council cannot involve themselves with private problems.
Mr. Jaworski moved that a letter be sent to Mr. Bruder stating that he is allowed to
park his trucks on his property, to store burning barrels, but not such things
as newspaper, batteries or scrap metal; no rubbish is to be deposited on the proper
ty. Seconded by Mr. Rosengren. Carried.
Mr. Alfred Maisio then mentioned that he wished to raise the grade on his lots on
Maple Street by three feet. Mr. Cardinal moved that a building permit be issued to
Mr. Maisio with the stipulation that the Engineer look at the grade first. Sec-
onded by Mr. Jaworski. Carried. Mr. Maisio was reminded that he would have to pay
for a culvert.
The minutes of the special Personnel Commission meeting held on June llth were read.
Mr. Jaworski proceeded go give the qualifications of the two men who had applied
for the position of Assistant Constable: Mr. Virgil Lundberg, 34, of 8094 West
Rondeau Lake Road, who works as a fireman and would be available for some day -time
patrolling; Mr. Curtis Younkin, 32, of 10939 Jefferson St., N. E. Mpls. who worked
days and has applied for a position with the County Sheriff's office also. Mr.
Jaworski stated that both men were anxious to obtain the Assistant Constable's
position. Mr. Personnel Commission had recommended Mr. Lundberg.
Mr. Jaworski moved that the Council appoint Mr. Virgil Lundberg, on the recommendation
of the Personnel Commission, to the position of Assistant Constable at a salary of
$74.00 per month. Mr. Lundberg will ride with one of the other policemen at all times
until trained and will begin work immediately, June 24th. Seconded by Mr. Bohjanen.
Carried.
