1
1
1
COUNCIL MEETING MAY 11, 1992
of dedicated service on the Planning and Zoning Board. Mayor
Reinert said he would personally deliver Mr. Nissen's plaque to
him. Mr. Nissen's plaque is for dedicated "service on the Park
Board.
Mayor Reinert presented a Certificate of Appreciation to the Lino
Lakes Lions Club for 20 years of humanitarian service to the
people of Lino Lakes. Mr. Ray Johnson said that with great pride
and honor he accepted the Certificate on behalf of the Lions
Club. Mr. Johnson noted a long list of contributions to the City
including, the entire Lino Park with storage facilities, picnic
shelters at all parks, the former BMX track, scholarships for
students at Centennial and Forest Lake High Schools, Red Cross
van, Halloween party at Lino Elementary School, ASF Fair at
Centennial High School, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Senior Citizens,
lawn mowing, snow plowing driveways, donations to RISE, the
purchase of a wellness van which provides blood pressure checks,
and diabetes and cholesterol checks and many other projects on
the local level. Mr. Johnson noted that the Lino Lakes Lions are
also active on the national and international level.
Mayor Reinert extended thanks to the Lions Club and all their
members. Mr. Johnson noted that approximately one quarter
million dollars has been donated to the local community and
nearly one half million dollars in total to all projects.
OPEN MIKE
Roberta Jacoway, 877 Orange Street delivered two (2) petitions to
the City Council. The first petition is for a speed sign of 30
MPH posted at the Lake Drive end of Orange Street and the second
for a fence around a pond located at the end of Orange and Olive
Street. Mrs. Jacoway explained that her area is involved with
the neighborhood crime prevention program administered by the
Lino Lakes Community Service Officer (CSO). She noted that the
CSO officer had recommended that the neighborhood petition for a
speed limit sign because traffic is moving very fast on Orange
Street. Mrs. Jacoway also said that she had spoken with Mr.
Volk, Public Works Director, and asked for "Children at Play"
signs. Mr. Volk explained that the City does not post such signs
because it appears that the City would be condoning playing in
the streets. Mrs. Jacoway said that the neighborhood would just
like to let outsiders know that there are many children in this
area and they should be cautious.
Mrs. Jacoway said that the neighborhood has heard rumors about a
new subdivision that is being planned for the west end of Orange
and Olive Streets. She noted the drainage problems in the area
now and also asked the City Council to consider purchasing an
area for parks or playground for her neighborhood.
PAGE 2
