100
COUNCIL WORK SESSION JULY 8, 1992
and would also be available to be rented for parties and
receptions. One of the laws governing the use of the money is
that the VFW obtain a letter of support for such a facility from
this City. Council Member Neal explained how the building would
be constructed and also volunteered to testify on behalf of the
VFW for the facility.
Mayor Reinert explained that this situation is similar to the
Robinson golf course situation. This City has not seen or
approved any plans, but would only express support for the need
of such a facility. Mr. Volk told the City Council that sanitary
sewer is not available in the area where the VFW is located. A
septic system designed for this type of facility must be
constructed.
Council Member Bergeson questioned why the City would issue a
letter of support and asked if a letter supporting the need of
such a facility would be more appropriate? Mayor Reinert said
that the City could endorse the need but the VFW must construct
the addition to meet design criteria.
Staff will draft a letter and put the matter on the June 22, 1992
agenda for review.
Underground Fuel Tanks - Council Member Neal explained that he
has been informed that there may be some buried fuel tanks at
Ross' Corner. It was noted that the PCA (Pollution Control
Agency) has jurisdiction in the matter of underground fuel tanks
and the matter should be referred to that agency. Mr. Volk will
work with the Building Inspector on this matter and give a report
to the City Council.
Staff Response to Ed Vaughan - Mr. Vaughan appeared before the
City Council on June 17, 1992 regarding the Pheasant Hills
Preserve subdivision. In addition, Mr. Vaughan has written a
letter to the City listing his concerns. Mayor Reinert said it
was his understanding that the Staff would review Mr. Vaughan's
letter and respond to it. The City Council will meet with the
Staff on this matter at 4:00 P.M., July 22, 1992 prior to the
regular work session. Mr. Schneider said that he did not want to
make this a debate or make Mr. Vaughan look bad. He said he will
ask the City Council to define how strict they want the Staff to
be with Mr. Vaughan's development.
Mayor Reinert explained that after the meeting with the Staff
another meeting will be held with Mr. Vaughan present.
Annexation - Mr. Schumacher gave a brief background on this
matter. Landowners in Lino Lakes had petitioned to detach from
Lino Lakes and annex to the City of Centerville. The proceedings
PAGE 2
1
1
1
