She also noted that
brush would have to be cut to provide space for a swing set and
sandbox. Ms. Gehrig said that she was sure that Mr. Asleson had
received numerous telephone calls requesting that the area be
left natural.
Mayor Reinert noted that the area needs a park for small
children. Ms. Gehrig explained that removing trees and bringing
in fill dirt was not a temporary measure. Mayor Reinert
explained a happy medium will have to be reached. He noted that
for the long term, this will not suffice. This park will be
abandoned and moved to a larger location in the future when land
is available. Ms. Gehrig said to make everyone happy, another
area should be found for a park. Mayor Reinert explained that
this option is not available at this time.
Ms. Gehrig noted that Mr. Asleson was looking at other parcels.
Mayor Reinert explained that none of the parcels were immediately
available. Ms. Gehrigh explained that they could be available
tommorrow or next week.
Gary Kaufman, 141 Woodridge Lane explained that his lot backs up
to the lot designated as park. He explained that he would concur
with the use as a park but would be opposed to it being a
building site. Mr. Kaufman said he paid a premium to purchase a
lot with trees and urged that the park be developed leaving as
much of the area natural as possible. He also felt that it would
be more logical to place the park closer to the street. This
would keep the back of his property as natural as possible.
Tom Connoy, 6312 Baldwin Lake Drive said if people are looking
for natural areas, they have the entire regional park for their
use. He asked that the City Council direct all construction
traffic to stay off of Baldwin Lake Drive since the street is oil
based and cannot handle heavy traffic. Mr. Connoy also noted
that there is some interest in extending sewer and water
utilities to the west. He will be bringing in a petition for the
City Council to consider in the near future.
Mayor Reinert explained that there is concern for the natural
environment that Lino Lakes has to offer. He felt that
environmental issues have been a very important issue. Amenities
that are valuable to residents such as wetlands are being
protected. However, the City Council must try to meet the needs
of the entire neighborhood to the best of their ability.
Council Member Kuether moved to approve the preliminary plat of
PAGE 10
1
