52
COUNCIL MEETING FEBRUARY 22, 1993
Block 4, Lakes Addition No. 2. Council Member Elliott seconded
the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
CONSIDERATION OF ALLOCATING THE 1993 COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK
GRANT FUNDS
Mr. Schumacher explained that a public hearing on this matter was
conducted at the February 8, 1993 City Council meeting and
several presentations were made by various organizations
requesting a portion of the CDBG funds. Resolution No. 08 - 93
was placed in the City Council packets. This resolution outlined
a possible division of the total amount of CDGB funds available
for 1993/1994. Mr. Schumacher noted that the Senior Program is
growing each year. He has indicated that $10,000.00 is needed to
continue the program at its current level. He explained that
$5,000.00 has been indicated for the Surface Water Management
Program. If any amount less than this is provided, the Program
will be under funded. Mr. Schumacher explained the request for
funding for the City's disabled recreation program. He noted
that the full amount of that request is needed. The only places
to amend the resolution appear to be in the funding for for
Alexandra House, RISE, Inc. and ACCAP. Mr. Schumacher noted that
the CHAPS Store has dropped its request for funding until they
can become a registered non-profit organization.
It was noted that Alexandra House is located near Lino Lakes and
it appears that a new shelter will be constructed somewhere in
Anoka County, but more centrally located. Cynthia Hendricks,
ACCAP explained that Pat Prinzevalle, Executive Director of
Alexandra House had been in the audience earlier this evening but
had left to attend another meeting. Ms. Hendricks attempted to
answer City Council questions regarding Alexandra House. She
explained that the shelter will be located in Coon Rapids near
its border with the City of Blaine. The site has been selected
by the Board of Directors of Alexandra House. Some critera used
in the site selection included safety, security and centralized
location.
Council Member Bergeson asked about the level of support from
other Anoka County communities. Ms. Hendricks explained that it
varies according to each community. Every community has been
approached but response has depended upon the number of issues
facing each city council. In addition, Alexandra House is
counting on foundation support in completing the project.
Council Member Neal asked who owns the land where the current
shelter is located and where will the proceeds go. Ms. Hendricks
explained that the proceeds from the sale of the land will go to
PAGE 14
1
