COUNCIL MEETING APRIL 22, 1996
this your little personal issue. She said that this issue involves everyone in the Centennial
School District. Ms. Kriegler said she supported Ms. Fenno who has lived in her home
for 11 years. She said she knew that there would be a new school there some day. Ms.
Kriegler said, lets get on with the evening.
Ms. Kriegler gave Mayor Landers a petition and said that she would like to get on with
the evening.
Linda Budnicki, 737 Country Lakes Drive - Ms. Budnicki said that she attended an
information meeting held by the Centennial School Board and is aware of the middle
school proposal. She explained that she has two (2) small children and the chances that
her family would be living in this community when they reach the age to attend the new
middle school was not very good. However, Ms. Budnicki said it did irritate her to no end
to find that Option C and Option D was being considered. Neither of those options
warrant a stop light. She said with 1800 children attending the middle school, safety has
to be the number one issue. Although the City Council has to be concerned about the
neighborhood, but the neighborhoods concerns cannot come above the children's safety.
Ms. Budnicki presented a petition that says concerned parents want a traffic light on Lake
Drive and Elm Street. She noted that the petition does contain the signatures of several
Wenzel Farms neighborhood residents. Ms. Budnicki said that she did not feel that Mr.
Killy should talk for the entire neighborhood when obviously Option D does not warrant
a light.
Ms. Budnicki said that all of the experts feel that Option F is the best and safest plan and
did not see how anyone in good consciences could put in a road for a school and ignore
what the experts are telling them. She asked the City Council to listen to the experts, this
is there job. OSM does this every day. Ms. Budnicki said it would be beyond her to tell
OSM that they are wrong and it would be beyond every City Council Member's ability to
do that also. She said they are the experts and that is what they are being paid for.
Ms. Budnicki explained that she used to be a Realtor and said that some of the houses on
North Road are the oldest houses in the community. This is what makes some of them
sell at the $50,000.00 and $60,000.00 level. She said that these houses cannot be
compared to the houses in Wenzel Farms because they are a totally different type of
housing.
Ms. Budnicki said that this is a City concern, not just a neighborhood concern. She said
she was sorry that the neighborhood does not like the rest of the City to get involved, but
the rest of the City is involved and will not go away.
Arnold Christenson, 281 Elm Street - Mr. Christenson said that he has just been
listening about all types of concerns about safety on Elm Street. He said that he has lived
on Elm Street for about 50 years. If they think there is a problem with traffic, think about
him because he moved to Elm Street when there was only about a dozen cars using that
street. Mr. Christenson said that this neighborhood cannot stop the wheels of progress.
PAGE 22
