• <br />• <br />COUNCIL WORK SESSION AUGUST 21,1996 <br />CENTENNIAL MIDDLE SCHOOL GAS UTILITY ISSUE, RANDY <br />SCHUMACHER <br />The area of the City where the new Centennial Middle School is located is a part of the <br />Circle Pines Gas Utility franchise. The School District was not aware of this and <br />contracted with Minnegasco to supply gas service during construction of the Middle <br />School. The Centennial School Board has now voted to continue service from <br />Minnegasco because of its rate structure. <br />Mr. Schumacher and Mr. Vern Reinert, the Lino Lakes representative on the Circle Pines <br />Gas Utility have encouraged the School District to secure gas service from the Circle <br />Pines Gas Utility because this provider pays franchise fees to the City. Although staff has <br />been negotiating a franchise with Minnegasco, staff does not expect to come before <br />Council for several weeks with a franchise recommendation. <br />Minnegasco will be coming before the Council and request an update on their franchise. <br />If the Council does not want to place the Centennial Middle Schoo ' t innegasco <br />franchise area, the School Board will have to review their deci <br />SET A DATE IN SEPTEMBER FOR JOINT MEET ' E CHARTER <br />COMMISSION, RANDY SCHUMACHER <br />The Charter Commission has requested a 'oi t with the City Council. A food license from <br />q red. <br />Council had no further questions or comments. <br />LEAGUE OF MINNESOTA CITIES SURVEY, RANDY SCHUMACHER <br />A regional meeting of the League of Cities will be convened on Thursday, August 22, <br />1996. This meeting will include a survey of member cities. The survey will contain <br />questions relating to issues in communities for the next 10 years. A copy of the survey <br />results will be made available to all member cities. <br />PAGE 5 <br />
