• • COUNCIL WORK SESSION AUGUST 21,1996 CENTENNIAL MIDDLE SCHOOL GAS UTILITY ISSUE, RANDY SCHUMACHER The area of the City where the new Centennial Middle School is located is a part of the Circle Pines Gas Utility franchise. The School District was not aware of this and contracted with Minnegasco to supply gas service during construction of the Middle School. The Centennial School Board has now voted to continue service from Minnegasco because of its rate structure. Mr. Schumacher and Mr. Vern Reinert, the Lino Lakes representative on the Circle Pines Gas Utility have encouraged the School District to secure gas service from the Circle Pines Gas Utility because this provider pays franchise fees to the City. Although staff has been negotiating a franchise with Minnegasco, staff does not expect to come before Council for several weeks with a franchise recommendation. Minnegasco will be coming before the Council and request an update on their franchise. LEAGUE OF MINNESOTA CITIES SURVEY, RANDY SCHUMACHER A regional meeting of the League of Cities will be convened on Thursday, August 22, 1996. This meeting will include a survey of member cities. The survey will contain questions relating to issues in communities for the next 10 years. A copy of the survey results will be made available to all member cities. PAGE 5
