CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION MAY 17, 2000 <br />SNO BARONS PROPOSAL TO MOVE HAY DAYS TO LINO LAKES, JEFF <br />SMYSER <br />Staff advised the Sno Barons is a snowmobile club that puts on the annual Hay Days <br />event in Columbus Township. The Sno Barons would like to purchase approximately <br />100 acres in northeastern Lino Lakes. The club would establish its headquarters there and <br />it would be the new site of the Hay Days event. <br />Staff advised they have spoke with club members on two (2) occasions. After receiving <br />comments back from other City staff, the club was informed that staff would not support <br />having the event at the proposed location. The primary concern is traffic, but there are <br />other concerns as well. The Sno Barons club requested a discussion with the City <br />Council. <br />Staff noted it cannot support the Hay Days event but could possibly support the locations <br />of the club in the proposed location. <br />Mr. John Weber, 14224 Davenport Street NE, came forward <br />staff several times. He stated there are always issues with <br />wishes to discuss the issues. He stated they want to mov <br />held on Waldock's farm. The club desires to be mo <br />spoke with <br />the club <br />event is currently <br />established. <br />Mr. John Seviola, 19411 Rochester Street NE afd and stated the race is on 90 <br />acres. The purchased land is approxi e stated the club has a good <br />rapport with the sheriff. There we - n 3 nts regarding the event last year. Traffic <br />is a problem that they are tryin a noted the club does not want to grow. <br />The creek on the purchase + oulnot be disturbed. The club does not have a <br />final plan. The club w the City concerns before moving forward. He read <br />an article in the F L. . aper regarding the club moving their location. <br />Council Member O n 1 inquired about the number of events each year. <br />Mr. Seviola advised the Hay Days event is an annual two -(2) day event. The club has <br />interest in holding an annual car show also. <br />Council Member O'Donnell noted the property could be in play relating to the County's <br />plans for a connection at 35W and 35E. <br />Council Member Carlson stated there are many road concerns. She requested information <br />regarding the comparisons of road issues between the old site and proposed site. <br />Staff noted there is noting in current City ordinance regarding this type of event. <br />Obtaining the permit is a lengthy process. <br />4 <br />
