CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION NOVEMBER 22, 2000 <br />Council Member Carlson brought up the question of economic feasibility. She stated she <br />is interested in how the City will scale the project back. She stated that even if the City <br />received the $1.5 million, she isn't sure if the City could afford the project. She referred <br />to the design standards and noted developers are not buying the Tagg property. She <br />stated the Council needs to know the economic feasibility and what the City is agreeing to <br />with the $450,000, the Metropolitan Council and the Tagg's. Mr. and Mrs. Tagg need to <br />know what will happen with their property. She stated that she believes the City does <br />need some design standards. However, if the design standards are taken off the north site <br />they have to be taken off the southern property also. <br />Staff advised they will be discussing what will be required with the funding with the <br />Metropolitan Council. <br />Council Member Carlson stated the City has struggled not to raise <br />a copy of the City budget in the newspaper. The City has to make a commitment to the new system by 2003. The City is <br />also looking for legislative relief to offset the costs. <br />Mayor Bergeson asked if the current dispatch arrangement will change if the County <br />changes to the new system. Staff advised the current arrangement will not change. Staff <br />is meeting with the County Board again on November 29, 2000. <br />Council Member Reinert inquired about the current system, why it is inadequate, and the <br />benefits of the new system. Staff advised all those issues are included in the study. He <br />stated the current system was designed 20 years ago and there is not a 911 -center backup. <br />New radios and equipment will be needed for the current system. Currently, radios are <br />being used that they don't make parts for. The current system would require old VHF <br />4 <br />
