CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION JANUARY 3, 2001 Mr. Pojar asked if the project will then go forward depending on who is on the City Council. Mayor Bergeson advised that if the project goes forward, a number of approvals must be obtained. It is the responsibility of the City Council to make those decision and transportation decisions for the City. Mr. Pojar requested reasons as to why the project now makes sense if the Council moves to go ahead with it. He stated he would like to know why the project is worthy now but it wasn't in 1998. Projects should move forward based on merit and should improve the City. Mayor Bergeson stated the majority of the Council will be happy to explain the reason for their vote. She stated there are many children who use the road to walk to school and it is not safe. Added traffic will cause more problems. She stated she was told a traffic study could be conducted but it may result in a higher speed limit. The current speed limit of 30 mph is too high. Ms. Williams came forward and stated that everyone is concerned about traffic and safety. She stated she almost got hit by a car getting her mail. The area can not tolerate any more traffic. She added that when Highway 49 is reconstructed there will be more traffic on Ware Road. She stated this is not a good project. Mr. Rice stated he believes the project is a good project and he is in favor of it. 4
