CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION JANUARY 3, 2001 <br />Mr. Pojar asked if the project will then go forward depending on who is on the City <br />Council. <br />Mayor Bergeson advised that if the project goes forward, a number of approvals must be <br />obtained. It is the responsibility of the City Council to make those decision and <br />transportation decisions for the City. <br />Mr. Pojar requested reasons as to why the project now makes sense if the Council moves <br />to go ahead with it. He stated he would like to know why the project is worthy now but it <br />wasn't in 1998. Projects should move forward based on merit and should improve the <br />City. <br />Mayor Bergeson stated the majority of the Council will be happy to explain the reason for <br />their vote. <br />Ms. Suzy Guther, 642 Fox Road, came forward and stated her mai. - is traffic. <br />She stated it is impossible now to get to Birch Street. She stated there are many <br />children who use the road to walk to school and it is not safe. Added traffic will cause <br />more problems. She stated she was told a traffic study could be conducted but it may <br />result in a higher speed limit. The current speed limit of 30 mph is too high. <br />Ms. Williams came forward and stated that everyone is concerned about traffic and <br />safety. She stated she almost got hit by a car getting her mail. The area can not tolerate <br />any more traffic. She added that when Highway 49 is reconstructed there will be more <br />traffic on Ware Road. She stated this is not a good project. <br />Mr. Rice stated he believes the project is a good project and he is in favor of it. <br />4 <br />
