COUNCIL MINUTES FEBRUARY 12, 2001 <br />Mayor Bergeson stated he understands the need for a tower in that part of the City. However, he <br />inquired about the safety in that particular location noting it is adjacent to other properties. <br />Mr. Lysiak stated there is a short history of monopole safety issues. He advised he has received a new <br />report indicating the towers will withstand 150 mph winds. The towers do not typically fall over but <br />will bend. Fifty -percent of the height is a good zone. The towers are made of a very sturdy material. <br />He indicated he has no concerns relating to the tower coming down. <br />City Engineer Powell added Owl Engineering does have experience with this type of pole. <br />Mayor Bergeson asked if the pole will hit a City building if it bends. Mr. Lysiak advised he has seen <br />pictures where the pole has not come down in a typhoon. The concern with a pole coming down is <br />what the land would look like around it because of the weight of the pole. <br />Council Member Reinert inquired about any public danger relating to what may be emitted from the <br />pole. Mr. Lysiak advised there is a measurable hazard, similar to a microwave. The FCC has <br />instituted guidelines in order to obtain a license. In this case, the dan in 30 feet. Council Member Dahl voted yea. Council Member O'Donnell <br />voted yea. Council Member Reinert voted yea.
