JOINT COUNCIL MEETING JUNE 17, 2002 <br />Mr. Biske stated trails are only one way to link the natural areas together. Informing the <br />property owners of their options is the first step in the process. This process has worked <br />well in other communities. He stated the purpose this evening is to have both cities keep <br />the idea of open space and green space within city ordinances as development occurs. <br />Councilmember Broussard -Vickers asked how the City will find out what undeveloped <br />land has the natural characteristics that should be saved. <br />Mr. Biske referred to the Anoka Conservation District map and noted the City of <br />Centerville has not yet been completed. Boat traffic did pick <br />up around the island until the ordinance was put into effect. <br />Councilmember Reinert asked why it was not a surprise that the birds left their nests. <br />Environmental Specialist Asleson stated it was not a surprise because it was on the news <br />and he thought everyone knew the birds had left their nests. <br />Councilmember Reinert asked if the birds left around the same time as they did in the <br />previous year. <br />Environmental Specialists Asleson stated the birds are progressive and leave in groups. <br />The birds did leave earlier in the nesting period this year than the previous year. <br />
