He noted all
the residents of this neighborhood drive by other convenience stores on their way home. He felt a
convenience store in this area would ruin the appearance of the neighborhood and he urged the City
Council to ask themselves why they would allow this to happen.
Bill Reise, Sioux Court, agreed with the comments made thus far. He recognized the importance of
allowing a property owner to develop their property. However, he stated when making a decision on
what uses are appropriate adjacent to a residential neighborhood, there must be a balance between the
desires of one individual and a whole host of others who also have important interests. He noted the
concerns for safety and property values and he urged the City Council to ask themselves what uses are
appropriate. He felt that a gas station and convenience store that will generate a large amount of
traffic would not be appropriate and would be out of place in this area.
A resident named Carrie, of Spirit Hills, stated she was very co
neighborhood. She noted all the children who live in the Spirit
Elementary School by way of Ware Road to Birch Street. She f
have to resort to driving their children to school. She stated
soon be walking and learning to ride a bicycle. She was co
venture out onto Ware Road and she was concerned abo
in this area.
Carrie indicated when moving to this neighborho
be developed with a retail development, howe
retail uses would be proposed. He felt that the residents of this neighborhood are likely very
intelligent and, if he was to spend a few hundred thousand dollars on a home, he would know exactly
what the future plans are for the neighborhood. He stated the plans for this subject site have been
known for a long time and he did not have a great deal of sympathy for the residents. He noted the
construction of a bike path on the east side of Ware Road would eliminate some of the concerns
expressed about additional traffic.
Councilmember Reinert moved to table consideration of the FIRST reading of Ordinance No. 08-02,
rezoning to GB/PDO, and Resolution No. 02-88, Approving Site Plan and Building Plans for the
25
