Consider 2nd Reading of Ordinance No. 09-14 <br />Amending City Code Section 1010 Relating to the <br />Regulation of Signs <br />VOTE REQUIRED: <br />INTRODUCTION <br />ii. Consider Resolution No. 14-129 Approving <br />Summary Publication of Ordinance No. 09-14 <br />3/5 <br />Staff is requesting City Council consideration to amend the City sign regulations and approve a <br />summary of the ordinance for purposes of publication. <br />BACKGROUND <br />The City Council approved the 1St Reading of Ordinance No. 09-14 on October 29, 2014. The <br />2nd Reading is required for adoption of the ordinance. <br />A summary of changes by section has been provided for council review along with the <br />proposed ordinance amendment. Changes to the Sign Ordinance text is shown by either strike <br />out or underline. Text shown with a strike out is proposed to be deleted. Underlined text is <br />new or has been moved from a different location in the ordinance. <br />The proposed changes for consideration can be summarized in three categories; 1) <br />Administrative changes; 2) Changes to temporary sign requirements and 3) Changes to <br />permanent signs requirements. A summary of major changes are as follows: <br />Administrative Changes <br />• Reorganized chapter to consolidate similar code requirements. For example prohibited <br />signs are now located in a Prohibited Signs section rather than dispersed throughout <br />ordinance. <br />• Added definitions to clarify existing terms used in the ordinance. <br />• Repetitive requirements where removed as applicable. <br />Temporary Signs <br />1 Amendment provides for a temporary sign allowance of 90 days annually.
