PART 3 EXECUTION <br />3.01 GENERAL <br />A. Conform to MnDOT Spec. 2105.3A, or modified herein: <br />1. Establish traffic control prior to excavations. <br />2. Establish the specified erosion control devices according to Section 01 57 13 prior to all <br />excavations. <br />3. Notify utility companies of progress schedule so they can accomplish relocations, <br />removals, and holding of lines. <br />4. Perform removals consistent with Section 02 41 13. <br />5. Strip topsoil consistent with Section 31 10 00. <br />3.02 PREPARATION OF EMBANKMENT <br />A. Conform to MnDOT Spec. 2105.3B, or as modified herein: <br />1. Engineer's approval is required of all areas where preparation works has been <br />performed prior to the placement of the embankment or fill material. <br />2. Where embankment is to be constructed over locations where the foundation <br />material is unstable, the foundation shall be excavated to remove all or part of the <br />unstable material. <br />3.03 EXCAVATION OPERATIONS <br />A. Conform to MnDOT Spec. 2105.3C, or as modified herein: <br />1. Perform excavations to the alignment, cross section, and grade as shown on the <br />Drawings. <br />2. Excavation of unstable material below grade shall be done under the direction of the <br />Engineer as the subsurface conditions are disclosed. <br />3. Remove muck excavation material by utilizing a backhoe so as to minimize disruption <br />to the bottom of the excavation. <br />4. Notify Engineer immediately of any large boulders or ledge rocks encountered so <br />proper measurement or profile can be made for pay quantities. <br />5. The Contractor shall remove rock encountered at locations along roadways in line with <br />piping. This shall be considered Rock Excavation, as defined in MnDOT Spec. 2105.2A2. <br />6. No solid rock will be allowed within 12 inches of the subgrade. <br />7. Provide and maintain temporary drainage facilities until permanent facilities are <br />completed. <br />8. Cut, fill, and grade Site to elevations and contours shown on the Drawings with <br />allowances for pavements, topsoil, and structures. <br />B. Contractor may store up to 6,000 CY of granular material at the City's Public Works <br />Building. Contractor shall verify with Owner prior to using this site. (Added By Addendum <br />No. 2). <br />3.04 STRUCTURE EXCAVATIONS <br />A. Excavate additional materials for structures, utility trenches, and base material. <br />B. Excavate to lines, grades and dimensions indicated on the Drawings. <br />C. Excavations shall be large enough to allow for the construction and inspection of utilities <br />and structures, including all form work. <br />D. No structure excavation shall have side slopes steeper than that considered safe for the <br />soils and Site conditions encountered. Side slopes shall meet all OSHA requirements.
