COUNCIL MINUTES July 13, 2015 <br />APPROVED <br />136 Council Member Roeser moved to approve Resolution No. 15-69 as presented. Council Member <br />137 Kusterman seconded the motion. Motion carried on a voice vote. <br />138 <br />139 PUBLIC SAFETY DEPARTMENT REPORT <br />140 <br />141 4A) Consider Hiring Paid On -Call Firefighters — Police Chief Swenson requested that the <br />142 council authorize hiring of four firefighters. He reviewed the extensive pre -hiring process used by <br />143 the department. These members would begin training in August if hired by the city. <br />144 <br />145 Council Member Roeser moved to approve the hiring of Anne Burton, Jeffrey Frid, Sean Mooney and <br />146 Kyle Torres as recommended. Council Member Stoesz seconded the motion. Motion carried on a <br />147 voice vote. <br />148 <br />149 4B) Public Safety Department Update — Chief Swenson provided the following update: <br />150 - Fire Station Project - the project is moving ahead of schedule; <br />151 - Staffing - with the addition of the four new hires tonight, the Fire Department is at 38 total, <br />152 with a new training class beginning at Century College on August 24 and those students fully <br />153 certified by mid-December and the department and staff members ready to go live in January; <br />154 - Apparatus: One engine purchased by the city is ready to go and is being used in training; the <br />155 other truck is being prepared and will be ready for viewing on Night to Unite; <br />156 - Policies: written department policy is complete and will roll out with training. <br />157 <br />158 Mayor Reinert noted the good numbers being seen in recruitment of firefighters. <br />159 <br />160 Council Member Roeser gave an update on the Centennial Fire Steering Committee meeting. There <br />161 are impacts being seen with the changes coming There will be budget impacts and some service <br />162 changes for the cities in the district. <br />163 <br />164 Mayor Reinert noted that there are many reasons that the council made the change to a city <br />165 department. It will be an improvement for public safety for the city. <br />166 <br />167 PUBLIC SERVICES DEPARTMENT REPORT <br />168 <br />169 5A) Consider Hiring Streets Maintenance Worker — Community Development Director <br />170 Grochala explained that this is a back fill position related to a recent resignation. This is a general <br />171 maintenance street position with additional assignment to utilities as needed. <br />172 <br />173 Council Member Rafferty moved to approve the hiring of Kyle Gray as recommended. Council <br />174 Member Stoesz seconded the motion.
