City Council <br />Date: May 5, 2009 <br />REGULAR <br />Item: <br />Motion: <br />ITEM: Selection process for Metro Cities policy <br />Committees <br />SUBMITTED BY: Dean A. Johnston, Mayor <br />REVIEWED BY: Craig W. Dawson, Interim City <br />Administrator <br />Summary and Action Requested: Metro Cities has <br />published its schedule for the 2009 policy committees. <br />These four groups review and modify the 2008 policy and <br />make recommendations to change policy for the next <br />legislative session. <br />The four policy committees are: <br />1. Metropolitan Agencies (Met Council) <br />2. Municipal Revenues <br />3. Housing and Economic Development <br />4. Transportation and General Government <br />Each member city has the ability to designate two people <br />to represent the city on each committee. The practice <br />in the past is that staff and city council members have <br />volunteered for the committees according to personal <br />preferences and the city has never filled all eight <br />committee positions. <br />There have been inquiries from commissioners and former <br />commissioners who are interested in participating in the <br />Metro Cities policy committees. Metro Cities has <br />confirmed that they interpret the elgibility requirment <br />
