969 We don't need another Woodbury
972 Thank you for taking this survey. I continue to believe there are people who want the
best for the whole community.
973 Please be thoughtful and don't be swayed by the next shiny thing. Three generations of
my family have lived in Lake Elmo. We don't want to be like Woodbury or Oakdale. Nice,
quiet, peaceful Lake Elmo. That's something to treasure.
974 Lake Elmo is lucky to have a remnant of the old downtown and this can be an asset if
developed well. The Washington County Library Lake Elmo branch seems to be a natural
fit in the Village area. Also Hwy 14 is a barrier for pedestrian and bicycle crossing
between the north and south areas of the Village area - this needs improvement.
976 Would love to see the center block of village across Lake Elmo Inn anchored by Sunshine
Coffee and Dan Stoudt's Insurance company include a perimeter of residential, shops and
restaurants with a center square businesses back up to for community gatherings and
farmer's market…etc. Restaurants with seating that backs to the square. A place that is
well coordinated in architecture and beautification, A place that shows how much we
care about our community - a place we honor, respect and celebrate. Our community
cherishes the village. We need to show our pride. Look at our neighbors - Stillwater,
Bayport and Hudson. Downtowns are celebrated. The village has the same potential, but
the opportunity to do it even better in a sweeter more small town way. If we are not
careful - we will be the next Woodbury if we do not coordinate building and
development efforts. Our community loves Lake Elmo. We need to honor this and show
it.
977 Not in the village area but it would be great if the city could take over the vali-hi drive in.
Would hate to see that turn into a business park. Keeping it would retain the small town
feel being sold off to developers.
980 No
982 Please keep it charming. Adding chain stores, restaurants, drive throughs, big box stores,
storage units, large apartment complexes, etc. to this area would be such a shame. There
is plenty of that in surrounding areas (I.e. Woodbury). It would be so nice to add
brownstone type buildings with small shops and smaller complex housing. I'm confident
there is a way to expand and keep the charm!
985 It will be a challenge to maintain the character of the community as it grows. Focusing on
the community, with good communication will be essential. Staging community events
will be important. That means staff will be needed to create and sustain such programs.
Increasing crosswalks will add to the calm sensibility of the city. Clean water is essential.
Please, please communicate with residents about water use and conservation. Please,
please do more to remove the PFAS from our water.
988 Make it desirable for businesses to be located in and want to be located in Lake Elmo.
ResponseID Response
