1102 As previously mentioned, I'm concerned about the safety of Lake Elmo Ave. North of Co
14 is the only direction leading into the city downtown with a speed limit of 55 mph. At
41st and 39th streets roundabouts should be considered to slow traffic but more
importantly provide for increased pedestrian safety. I have witnesses several near
accidents as residents scurry across Lake Elmo Ave. (Hwy 316 south of Hastings is a
good example of traffic calming and increased pedestrian safety with use of
roundabouts). South of Co Rd 14 the speed limit should be lowered to no more than 40
mph.
1103 Village Area Challenges: 1. Separate, isolated area from the rest of Lake Elmo. Need to
create more economic reasons for residents to go to the Village area, create a better
"destination" area. 2. Much of the prime Village real estate is privately held so we need
developers to see that "if they build it they will come" and not the other way around! Will
need to court these stakeholders to share the vision. 3. Traffic and parking will continue
to need to be addressed.
1104 Having served on village commission years ago, the idea of preserving the small town
character and having a historic district that maintains the historic buildings should be a
priority. I hear from friends in st. Paul, that they love to come to Lake Elmo to the Inn
because of the small town quaintness and are very upset that the schiltgen farm was
destroyed.
1105 Keep it small town feel. I have lived here 30 years and it is horrible all the building going
on of the houses that are so expensive and right on top of each other. Get rid of dirt
motor and build a nice park / community space. Attract small businesses and keep the
fast food out of downtown. Look at nisswa or chisago/lindstrom. Those are amazing
small towns.
1107 All of the ideas are great, but you need to make it walkable/bikeable for the thousands of
homes around the village. Please develop this community and meet the needs of LE
residents. You have a huge opportunity with a wealthy community and young families.
1108 No
1110 Plan out what the community wants and not put in businesses piecemeal. With
community growth, let it develop under a plan and not as a business wants.
1112 Protect it. Keep it small. Nothing taller than 3 stories. More walkable. Bike able. Bring in
pizza! Brewery! Roundabouts. Native gardens. More community events. Monitor the
speed of traffic.
1122 Keep the original school building and use it for a new larger library. Use the other land
for an outdoor pool. Could also use the land for a community center with workout
facility, indoor gym, place for classes. Something for multi-age use
1128 The Old Village has retained a small town vibe - please do not destroy that with
overzealous development.
ResponseID Response
