7. MAINTENANCE/PARK/FIREBUILDING:
A. Brush Removal Program: Dan Olinger
Administrator Kueffner and Maintenance Supervisor, Dan Olinger were
unable to complete a recommendation for a long-term permanent program.
Reasons for this, one being an interest by a private contractor to set up a
compost site in the City. This idea will be on the July agenda of the
Environmental Committee. Many residents have already put brush curbside
expecting the program to continue this year. Staff proposed a one time pick
up of brush the week of June 18-22 (estimated cost $6,000) with work to be
done by Precision Tree Service and that the brush be taken directly to
Buberl's compost/brush site for chipping (estimated cost $4,000). A
citywide flyer advising the residents of this pickup will be mailed at a cost of
$500.
The Council asked that the residents be clearly made aware of the change in
the brush program. The brush removal program was started for people
devastated from storms. The City never budgeted for this program.
M/S/P Armstrong/Dunn — to approve the one-time brush pick up to be
completed the week of June 18-22 (estimated cost $6,000) with work to be
done by Precision Tree Service and that the brush be taken directly to
Buberl's compost/brush site for chipping (estimated cost $4,000) and send
out a citywide notice (estimated cost of $500, if needed) advising residents
of this pickup. (Motion passed 5-0.)
B. Safety Netting for Lions Park
The Fire Department and the Lake Elmo Baseball Association have reported
a problem with baseballs going over the backstop. Two possible solutions
were explored. Extending the current backstop or netting running from the
light poles to the backstop creating a protective hood. The staff and Park
Commission determined that netting would offer more protection.
Staff received two quotes for this netting.
Earl F.
