LAKE ELMO CITY COUNCIL MEETING, MARCH 3, 1981 -5-
OFFICE REMODELING: Mayor Eder suggested the Administrator compile
all the figures and hold a meeting with +_he Building Committee
before the next meeting.
t
Fraser outlined the options in her order of preference, the
last choice being rbmodeling!of._the present office and the
first choice being the Old Town Hall site. She suggested that
the building be designed and built with the potential for
future conversion or resale. She also suggested the present
office be retained and leased out.. Fraser encouraged the Council
to invite residents to come into the City Office and see the
crowded conditions and assess the need for a new building.
Novak generally agreed with Fraser. She feels cost will be a
deterent with all of the alternatives. Her first choice would
be an addition to the Fire Hall and agreed with Fraser to retain
ramended the current office building.. *,so that fiscal 1982 funds could be used
3/17/81 also.
Eder recommended the Council add the current alternative to the
list of options and continue to research the matter so that a
decision can be made at the next Council meeting. Novak asked
for more specifics on cost and the possibility of starting
in 1982 rather than 1981.
The Council discussed alternative:, methods for financing the
project.
Eder suggested using the Newsletter to explain the -need
! for a new building, outline the alternatives and encourage
residents to visit the City Office. The Council agreed.
NICK PATTI: Eder reviewed the Resolution and conditions of the
CUP for Equity Homes. No site plan was on file. Eder informed
Mr. Patti that the same conditions would apply for a new CUP.
Mr. Patti said he would agree to any" conditions the City, would impose.
Novak moved, seconded by Fuser, to adopt R-81-17, granting a
CUP. to Patti Homes, contingent upon a site plan, locating
the units on the lot; no more than 15 units on the site; all
conditions listed for Equity Homes be followed; and any
person subletting the property apply to the City for a CUP in
their own name. Motion carrie d 4-0.
SALE OF TIIE OLD TOWN HALL SITE: Fraser asked if the sale of the
Old Town Hall site could be deferred until a determination is
made on a new office building site. She felt this might enable
the City to avoid some legal expenses involved in transferring
the property twice should the City decide to buy the Meyer property.
Administrator Whittaker -said-that all the paperwork is complete
and all the expenses are paid. He did not anticipate any additional
expenses before the March 4 closing date.
The Council agreed that since there would be no financial benefit
in deferring the sale, the closing should proceed as scheduled.
