It was determined in 1981 that it <br />would not be economically feasible, so a few other measure were taken <br />to insure the reliability of the one public well within the City). <br />Eder recommended to the Council deferring any consideration for the <br />second well as one of the considerations of the Landfill Committee is <br />for a public water supply. <br />(2) The City should consider installing permanent chlorination <br />equipment and maintaining a free chlorine residual of at least 0.2 to <br />0.5 milligrams per liter on all points of the distribution system. (We <br />do presently put one addative into the water - fluoride - to prevent <br />cavaties. 95 to 99 percent of the public water supplies also <br />chlorinate their water. Chlorination is not so much to kill bacteria <br />you have in the water, but is more of an insurance that when watermains <br />break, etc., chlorination provides a very low level disinfectant in the <br />water to insure that bacteria does not grow). Consensus of the Council <br />is not add chlorine to the public water system. <br />(3) The opportunity for additional training in water supply work <br />should be made available to the operator. Attendance at the annual <br />waterworks operators seminar, held in the area, is a valuable <br />experience for anyone engaged in this field. (It was determined that <br />the City of Lake Elmo has always provided additional schooling whenever <br />a course has come up). <br />M/S/P Morgan/Dunn - To acknowledge receipt of the three <br />recommendations from the Department of Health (as outlined in their <br />letter of May 1, 1984), regarding the City's public water supply, but <br />will take no action at this time. (Motion carried 5-0). <br />F. Other <br />A. The City Engineer advised the Council that the <br />residents that had requested satellite bathroom facilities have <br />obtained these facilities. <br />7. City Council Reports (None) <br />8. Appointment to the Washington County Solid Waste Committee <br />Klaers advised the Council that Washington County requested that an <br />official from the City of Lake Elmo serve on this committee. The Solid <br />Waste Advisory Committee is being restructured at this time in order to <br />comply with the 1984 legislative amendment to the Waste Management Act. <br />M/S/P Morgan/Mazzara - To appoint Bruce Dunn as Lake Elmo's official <br />representative to the Washington County Solid Waste Advvisory <br />Committee. (Motion carried 5-0) <br />
