LAKE ELMO CITY COUNCIL MINUTES FEBRUARY 4, 1986 Page 2
look at what they were comparing, leasing of present office space
versus building a 11,000 sq.ft building, the two did not turn out
very well. Especially, when you were to pay $40,000-$50,000 for
land to go with it. If you were to build on your own land, it is
conceivable that it would be significantly cheaper than continuing
to lease this space or to buy this office space. Therefore, these
options are being looked at. If it is better to lease, we will
lease; or if it is better to buy, we will buy. It is the
taxpayers money that we are saving here, and we will do the best
job we can.
Mayor Morgan stated that it was not our intentions to increase the
mill rate in any way. We are going to do the most economical
thing that we can.
5. Parks & Planning Commission - Candidate Interviews
Ronald Ramirez, 8840 27th St. Ct. No. - I consider Lake Elmo to
have a very good city parks system. When I was first interviewd I
made some negative comments on my neigborhood park, Tablyn Park,
but I don't find anything wrong with the system as a whole. I
,just saw some opportunities to improve Tablyn Park. My family
uses Tablyn Park daily in the summertime. My intent to being on
the Park Commission is to provide some assistance in deciding how
to develop parks and help improve the park system.
Gloria Knobla.uch, 9181 31st St. N. - I have kind of a vested
interest in what happens to Lake Jane and to the water quality in
the wells around the landfill area because I live just south of
there. I would like to see more business encouraged to expand our
tax base, but would like it clustered in this area and not, all
over Lake Elmo. We have a good quality of life here. We have
Sunfish Park where we can go snowmobiling, cross-country skiing or
hiking on the trails.
Barbara Haacke, 9280 55th St. N. - I just recently moved to the
area, but had a desire to become involved with the City. I have
enjoyed what I've seen and would like to see continued quality
planned development in the area.
Robert Haacke Jr., 9280 55th St. N. - I like the park system and
the town and would like to become involved with government. I use
the parks and could give some good input to maintain the quality
of the parks. I believe there should be a balance met between
motorized and non -motorized use.
M/S/P Dunn/Christ - to appoint Ron Ramirez for one term on the
Lake Elmo Parks Commission. (Motion carried 5-0).
M/S/P Dunn/Morgan - to appoint Barbara Haacke as Second. Alternate
on the Lake Elmo Planning Commission. (Motion carried 5-0).
M/S/P Dunn/Armstrong - to table the second appointment on the
Parks Commission until Scotty Lyall has been interviewed. (Motion
carried 5-0).
