Containers <br />Teddie Carlson, Solid Waste Advisory Committee member, requested Council <br />approval to proceed with applying for a Matching -Fund Grant from the <br />Metropolitan Council for the purchase of 4,250 recycling containers, which <br />are made of 100 percent recycled material, to be provided to every <br />household in the City. (The Met Council will match, dollar for dollar, <br />funds spent for the purchase of recycling containers). The Committee <br />indicated it was their goal to provide every household of the City with two <br />recycling containers, free of charge and would also like to be able to <br />"stockpile" containers to cover new homes within the City for at least the <br />next three years. <br />Met Council's estimated households in Lake Elmo is 2,037. At two <br />containers each, that totals 4,074 containers, with an additional 176 on <br />hand (an average of 58 containers per year for a "guesstimated" 29 new <br />households per year). The cost for these containers would be $5.51 each <br />if we purchase 4250 containers. <br />The following was the breakdown of the costs for this program, and the <br />Commission's recommendation to the Council. <br />COST: <br />4250 containers @$5.18 each: $22,015.00 <br />Lake Elmo's portion: 11,007.50 <br />Met Council's matching funds: 11,007.50 <br />PAYMENT: <br />Grant from Washington County: $ 5,000.00 <br />*Bonus Fund from Wash. Cty. 4,000.00 <br />Proceeds from Garage Sale 500.00 <br />Total $ 9,500.00 <br />Amount needed from Lake Elmo 1,507.50 <br />TOTAL $11,007.50 <br />*Bonus Fund referred to is money from Washington County to be distributed <br />to all cities that have a recycling program in effect by September 1, <br />1989. This is over and above the $3 per household we received from the <br />County. <br />M/S/P Graves/Williams - to authorize proceeding with applying for a <br />Matching Fund Grant from the Metropolitan Council for the purchase of 4250 <br />recycling containers to be provided to every household in the City of Lake <br />Elmo. (Motion carried 5-0). <br />
