Trees
One hundred thirty-five (135) trees were removed for this project. The majority were
within the right-of-way, The only trees removed on private property were on a vacant lot
north of Lake Jane Trail and west of Jamaca Avenue. This lot is heavily wooded.
State aid rules allow planting two replacement trees for each tree removed. The trees must
be planted within the right-of-way, but outside of the clear zone, On this project this
leaves only 1' to plant a tree in. An exception to this is where major regrading took place,
trees can be planted off the right -of way, Because we did very little grading work off the
right•of-way, we have very little opportunity to replace trees,
We have had only one .request for replacement of trees, Dan and Carl Olinger have
requested that a row of white pine trees be planted on the fill slope on the north side of
Lake Jane Trail. Their request will require about 35 trees, Fifteen to twenty trees were
removed inside the right-of-way through this area. These replacement trees would cost
$5,250, The original bid called for $11,850 in trees.
We are asking for Council direction on whether these, or other trees, should be planted on
this job,
2, Fences - Conrad R=*Mr
Prior to this project, the Conrad residence had a red board fence bordering a field, and a
large lilac hedge in front of the home. Both the fence and the hedge straddled the property
line, and were in the way of regradhtg, Because of its age the red fence would have been
difficult to salvage and replace, Mr. Conrad agreed that a wood post, woven wire fence
would be an acceptable replacement. This fence is in the project and the cost is
comparable to salvaging and replacing the old fence,
