Mounds View City Council Apri123, 2007
Regular Meeting Page 8
City Administrator Ulrich explained that this item would approve advertisement for the full time •
cable coordinator position as previously discussed by the Council.
William Werner of 2765 Sherwood Road asked what a Cable Coordinator would do and why the
position is necessary.
City Administrator Ulrich explained that this person would develop programs, cable cast the
Council meetings and other City meetings.
David Jaluilce of 8428 Eastwood Road said that he does not feel like it is necessary for a full time
employee. He then said that it seems like they are trying to build a cable corporation. He further
said that the economy is bad and he thinks that this is unnecessary at this time.
Council Member Hull asked whether the Cable Coordinator position was new last year.
City Administrator Ulrich indicated that it was the first time there was a full time position but the
title was a little different.
Council Member Flaherty said that one thing from a few years ago was a goal of better
communication with the residents. He then said that he supports the position as he thinks it is
something that the City needs to better inform residents of what is going on.
Council Member Mueller said that a lot of people cannot come down to the meetin or et the •
g g
papers but, there are a lot of people that watch these meetings on television. This position was
already established by the City and this would replace that person.
Mr. Jahnke said that he sees no difference for other departments and why does the City have to
pay the Cable volunteers and not other volunteers.
Acting Mayor Stigney said he questions the Hay points and the required salary. He then said that
he does not approve of full time for this position because he does not want the City to be required
to pay the benefits and the other costs associated with having employee.
City Administrator Ulrich suggested postponement to allow time for Staff to contact the
consultant.
MOTION/SECOND: Mueller/Flaherty. To Postpone Resolution 7051, Approving Full-time
Cable Coordinator Position and Advertisement for Hire to May 14, 2007.
MOTION/SECOND: Mueller/Stigney. To Postpone to Allow Staff to Have the Opportunity to
Get the Results of the Information from the Research Company and to Look at the Option of
Three Part Time People Rather than One Full Time Coordinator.
•
