-2- <br />October 23rd, 1961 Council meeting (con't) 000 153 <br />Mr. Hodges reported for the Recreation Commission: <br />1. Joslyn Electric is going to put lighting in the warming houses <br />and also an outside floodlight at each of the three rinks for an estimate <br />cost of $118.90 each. <br />2. A new type of lighting, known as quartz light will be used, <br />with an automatic timer for the flood lights. <br />3. The Mounds View School District #621 recreation program director, <br />stated they want to co- ordinate their program with the recreation <br />commission program. They are planning on an enlarged hockey and figure <br />skating program. <br />The Planning Commission report was read by Milt Stole. (copy on file) <br />The clerk was instructed to send a letter regarding the proposed <br />park at 35 and Highway 10 to the following people: <br />1. Ed Salverda County Commissioner <br />2. Richard Jones State Representative <br />3. Harold Olson State Highway Department, Beautification Engineer <br />4. Mr. Mc Cubrey State Highway Department, District Engineer <br />The attorney is to submit a memo regarding a letter from the <br />Planning Commission on building plans and specs. <br />Motion by Christensen to concur with planning commission and allow <br />a variance for Mr. Fred Jensen, 2125 Pinewood, for a garage to be not less <br />than ten(10) feet from side yard line, for the following reasons: <br />1. Garage sets back approximately 100 ft. from front line. <br />2. There is no problem on obstruction of vision. <br />Seconded by Hodges. 5 Ayes. <br />Mr. Kenneth Ballenger reported for the Civil Defense Department. <br />The Auxillary police and Civil Defense men have passed out fallout <br />shelter and home preparedness pamphlets to most of the village hcmes and <br />will finish distribution shortly. <br />He further reported that the State is conducting a survey on public <br />buildings for possible fallout shelters and a meeting was to be held on <br />October 26th regarding this. <br />He requested and received permission to use the new Village building <br />for a Civil Defense Directors meeting on November 16th. <br />Mr. Boog reported that the Chief of Police of Arden Hills and <br />Representative Richard Jones stated that the Mounds View Civil Defense <br />Department is fulfilling their obligations with the school district in <br />regards to policing the school activities beyond what other departments <br />are doing. <br />Mr. Skiba reported for the building inspector on the proposed <br />apartment building in Pinewood area. <br />1. The clerk is to send a letter to the builder, Mr. Groberg, through <br />the attorney's office, stating what is necessary before plans can be <br />approved. (copy of letter on file) <br />2. Mr. Gerald Fields, 2255 Lambert, received permission to build <br />a garage, subject to his signing an agreement to remove present garage <br />at this site. <br />3. A home at 7801 Long Lake Road was red tagged for faulty wiring <br />and sewer vent. <br />
