-7- <br />Mr. VanWormer said the closing of Eastwood or one of the other streets would <br />have much less impact than the impact of the shopping center. The shopping <br />center will generate thousands. <br />Don Zappa, 5249 Jeffery, was concerned about traffic generated to Edgewood Dr. <br />and the affect it would have on Edgewood Jr. High with all the children walking <br />to school. <br />Mr. Shun asked if anyone had ever thought of a pedestrian bridge across Highway <br />#10. <br />Mr. VanWormer said one of the problems with a pedestrian bridge is trying to <br />get pedestrians to use it. Cost would be between $80,000 to $90,000. <br />Steve Thompson, 7190 Silver Lake Road, asked Mr. VanWormer if there wTere any <br />significant advantages in terms of planning and costs for his department by <br />installing medians and cul -de -sacs at the same time the semiphore is put in. <br />Mr. VanWormei said there is added cost but they probably would not be concerned <br />about added cost because they are astronomical. The single system itself will <br />cost $58,000 to $70,000 per signal. <br />Sharon McCarthy asked about the possibility of installing three -way stops <br />on all the corners at Eastwcod, Greenwood, and Long Lake Road. <br />Mr. VanWormer did not feel it would be very effective. <br />Tim White, 5249 Greenfield Ave., asked if we couldn't do something similar to the <br />system on Rice Street and Vadnais. <br />Mr. VanWormer said in this instance there was nothing they could do with the <br />road because there was no other way of getting around. They were pressed <br />between the freeway and the lake and they had to accept this and provide an <br />additional phase for this traffic to come out. We had half the traffic volume <br />and did not have to worry about left turn lane. <br />Mr. Siemen asked what the Highway Department felt would be the best solution. <br />Mr. VanWormer said from an operational standpoint they could asswer but from <br />an incult impact that's why they are here. <br />LaDean Norton, 5209 Jeffery Drive asked if because of the shopping center going <br />in if they were going to put a signal at Long Lake Road and Highway #10. <br />Mr. VanWormer said that they had looked at all of the intersections along Highway <br />#10 and had talked about the coordination concept green light at all three <br />intersections at the same time and they could not work it in on Long Lake Road, <br />Tom Shun asked if there was a possibility of setting up a stage of the proposed <br />program and hiring five cups and set up the system on a play basis. A dry <br />run without the investment getting a feel for how the people are going to use <br />the streets and a feel for what the flow will be. <br />Mr. Van Wormer said that duplicating traffic signal by means of having some <br />police patr•Amen set up a stage would get an entirely different impact on the <br />driving. <br />
