Mounds View City Council April 11, 1983 <br />Regular Meeting Page Nine <br />Councilmember Linke brought the Council up to date <br />on the plans made so far for the Festival in the Park, <br />and sb'.wed a sketch of the winning button. <br />Councilmember Linke reported he had received notifi- <br />cation from the Ramsey County League of Local Governments <br />that they will be meeting with the State Legislators <br />on April 20, with everyone welcome. <br />Councilmember Hankner reported that she had attended tiLG <br />seventh annual dinner of the North Suburban Youth <br />Service Bureau, of which she is on the board of directors, <br />at which Tim Smith was recognized for his involvement in <br />the program. <br />Councilmember Hankner reported she is also on the board <br />of directors of the North Suburban Development Achieve- <br />ment Center, which works with pre school handicapped <br />children and retarded adults, and they will be holding <br />a bowl -a -thon as a fund raiser. <br />Councilmember Blanchard reported she had attended the <br />April 6 Planning Commission meeting, at which they <br />recommended approval of an extension for the Miller <br />property. They were also happy with the recommended <br />changes to the sign ordinance, they gave conceptual <br />approval for Mr. Norb Yenish to build a 70 unit motel <br />and will be working with him in the future. She reported <br />they are considering a new zoning district for the mobile hare <br />parks, R -5, and they are presently working on the <br />existing zoning to bring it into conformance with the <br />Comp Plan. <br />Mayor McCarty reported that at the hearing on the airport, <br />the City did not get its point across, that it was a <br />local issue, and that the entire process of house file <br />829 was geared to a single airport. Mayor McCarty <br />reviewed the action that took place, and expressed concern <br />that the City gather all the support possible, as the <br />issue must still go through the Senate. He asked that <br />one of the members of the Council who was associated with <br />the DFL Club contact them and ask them for their support. <br />Russ Warren identified himself as a member of the DFL Club <br />and stated the Council was after the Club for using an <br />improper name, and then turns around and asks for their help. <br />It was pointed out that Mr. Warren's reply was not from <br />the DFL Club itself and the Club should be contacted. <br />There was discussion among the Council as to why certain <br />members had voted at the DFL Club to table their recommen- <br />dation for further study. It was pointed out there were <br />people who did not understand the issues at hand and the <br />impact of an ILS on the City, and the item had been tabled <br />to give them time to study it. <br />Mayor McCarty asked that the DFL Club be contacted to set <br />
