She felt it was very kind of
the Newton family to substantially reduce the selling price of
the property and expressed her appreciation for the land they
have donated in the past.
VOTE: 4 ayes 1 nay (Hankner) Motion Carried
•
F. Consideration of Approval of the Transfer of Contingency Funds
for a Forestry Grant Match - Highway 610 Barrier
Mary Saarion, Director of Parks, Recreation and Forestry,
reported that Forester Wriskey submitted a Small Business
Association grant application for trees to be planted along
the Hwy. 610 noise barrier wall. The grant was awarded in the
amount of $3,500, requiring the City to match with $2,450. It
was suggested the funds be transferred from the Contingency
Account to Forestry Reforestation.
Councilmember Hankner asked if this was a budgeted item.
Ms. Saarion replied that it was not.
Councilmember Trude asked if the planting of the trees would
help the city qualify for the Tree City USA status.
Ms. Saarion explained that a certain quota of new trees was a
requirement to be considered a Tree City USA and that the tree
planting grants can not be applied for without the Tree City
USA status.
MOTION/SECOND: Quick/Trude to Approve the Transfer of
Contingency Funds for a Forestry Grant Match - Highway 610
Barrier
Mayor Linke advised that this item was discussed at the last
Work Session. At that time, Councilmember Blanchard had
suggested planting trees to memorialize the victims of the
Oklahoma City bombing. Donations could be collected at City
Hall for the project and the money received would cut down on
the amount to be transferred from the Contingency Account.
~J
Councilmember Hankner commented that more and more items are
being funded from the Contingency Account because they were
not budgeted for.
