The project
was to build a joint facility to be used by senior residents
from the four communities thereby responding to a growing need
expressed by area senior residents. The Metropolitan Council
determined that the Center could not be located at the
proposed site, and after considering a secondary location, the
cities have decided to withdraw from the Regional Senior
Center Project.
Mayor Linke expressed his disappointment in withdrawing from
this project. He felt that it would have been a great Center
and would have fit beautifully in Locke Lake Regional Park.
MOTION/SECOND: Linke/Blanchard to Adopt Resolution No. 4766
Officially Withdrawing City Support for and Involvement in the
Regional Senior Center Project
VOTE: 5 ayes 0 nays Motion Carried
Consideration of Resolution No. 4767 Recuesting Reallocation
of CDBG Funds
Samantha Orduno, City Administrator, reported that Northwest
Youth and Family Service Bureau requested the City to approve
this Resolution. It would request Ramsey County to reallocate
$100,000 of CDBG funds to apply toward the capital request of
Northwest Youth and Family Services for their building in
Shoreview. This request was presented shortly after Ramsey
County's prioritizing the CDBG funding for primarily housing
and certain economic development activities and leaving a big
gap for social. services such as Northwest Youth and Family
Services.
MOTION/SECOND: Trude/Hankner to Adopt Resolution No. 4767
Requesting Reallocation of CDBG Funds
Mayor Linke said that he was concerned with the prioritizing
of the CDBG funding particularly because social services were
cut out entirely. He has met with Ramsey County Commissioner
Wedell along with staff members of the CDBG group.
