Goa14: Suppart fhe development of public transit aud para-transit systems wl�ich wi11 minitnize the need <br />for individual automobile travel. <br />Policies: a. Sufficient mobilify shall be promoted for all persons, giving speciat consideration to <br />tizose who must rely on modes of transportation other than the automobile. <br />b. Adequate transit rider conveniences, such as bus sheiters, parlc and ride lats, and free <br />parking areas, sl�all be incorporated into activity centers and areas of I�igh transit <br />usage. <br />c. Transit service shall be ancouraged within a reasonable wallcuig distance of every <br />resident of the community. <br />d. Additzonal transit service during off-peak Iiours io activity outside the community <br />should be encouraged. <br />e. The City will work with the Metropolitan Counci! Transit Organization (MCTO) to <br />provide more and better transit service for the community and to provide increased <br />ridership. <br />f. Encourage MCTO to impleinent an intra-suburban transit plan. <br />Goal 5: Ensure the provision of pedestrian and bicycle facilities which are consisteut with the safe and <br />convenient circuiation needs of the pedestrian and tl�e bicyclist. <br />Policies: <br />a. Plan and in�plement a comprehensive traii systein to provide safe pedestrian and <br />bicycle movement fhroughoat the City. <br />b. Dependency on autotnobile oriented transportation will be reduced by introducing or <br />improving pedestrian and bicycle transit faciiities. <br />c. Pedestrian/bicycle corridors shall be considered on minor arteriai and collector <br />roadways including the Highway 10 carridor to ensure safe pedestrian travel. <br />d. Safe and convenient gedesirian circulation shall be promoted within and ta and irotn <br />activity centers, separated when feasible from vehicular circulation. <br />e. Accommodations will be made to facilitate safe pedestrian and bicycle crossings at <br />major intersections. <br />f. Special provisions for pedestrian and bicycle access and circulation shall be planned in <br />areas adjoining schools, parks, cl�urcl�es, serrvice centers and commei•cial centers. <br />g. When economically feasibJe, provide faciiities for pedestrians and bicyclists in <br />conjunction with street improvement projects. <br />h. Where possibie, provide hicyclists a right-of-way separated from both pedestrian and <br />vehicular traffic. <br />� <br />
