Mderaon, Director <br />DATE: December 6, 1977 <br />RE: Monthly Update - November - December <br />The purpose of this regort is to keep the Parks and Recreation Co�iasion <br />informed on current iseues within the Parlcs, Recreation and Foreatry Depart- <br />ment that do not need official Co�iesion action. The Director will present <br />a report s3milar to this each month if the Co�issionera feel that it is <br />beneficial. <br />A resource file of related items will be placed in the City Hall and ia <br />available for review upon requeat. <br />1. New Director Hired - Effec[ive November 7, 1977, Bruce K. Anderaon wss <br />� appointed Che Direc[or of Parks, Recreation and Forestry. A brief look <br />� at my background includea: <br />a. Four years full-time experience as the Assistant Director of the <br />Maplewood Co�uni[y Services Depar[ment. <br />b. One year full-time experience as Director of Parks and Recreation <br />in Rosemo�mt, Minnesota. <br />c. One and a half years full-time experience with Recreational Services <br />Inc., as the Director of the Apartment Recreation Division. <br />In addition, a var:'e[y of part-time experience in a program leadership <br />capacity in New Brighton, Maplewood, Edina, Richfield and Minneapolia <br />Parka and Recreation Departments. <br />A complete peraonal resume is available for review in the "zesource file" <br />at the City Hall office. <br />2. Staff Traininft Seseion - The staff management team participated in two - <br />two day training sesaiona at Seven Pines Lodge in Lewis, Wisconain. The <br />datee of the training aeaeiona were November 7 and 8 and November 19 and 30�. <br />The eraining seaeiona were coordinated by Petez Gregg, a Profeseional Manage- <br />ment Coneultant. The firet training period wae apent evaluating the "team � <br />management" appmach and how we each fit into the "management grid". After� <br />houra of deliberation the staff eatabliehed "Co�mity Isauea" and began to <br />_ brainetorm poeaible eolutions. The second weekend had the City Co�mcA and <br />Staff reviewing each groupe iesue priority liat and the compilation of a <br />����# maeter liet. After priorities were eatabliahed a detailed problem solving <br />�� eeeeion wae begun with action plana written for meny of the prioritiee. <br />
